1000-Lb. Sister star Tammy Slaton has come a long way in her weight loss journey, but a source exclusively tells In Touch her success sparked major drama within her family and she’s openly accusing sister Amanda Halterman of being petty and jealous.

“Tammy has been going on and on about how Amanda is jealous of her now that she’s lost weight,” the insider says, “She’s convinced of it.” 

Viewers of the TLC reality series watched the Slaton family battle through ups and downs, especially Tammy, 38, who at one point weighed more than 700 pounds. She struggled with severe mobility problems and health complications, but is now down about 500 pounds and ready to shed her old self once and for all preparing for an excess skin-removal surgery.

While Tammy and Amanda, 44, who peaked at 406 pounds herself, endeavored to drop the weight together, the source notes that after Tammy’s 2022 bariatric surgery and 14-month stay at a weight clinic resulted in her dramatic weight loss, she’s been getting catty with her sister and claiming she’s now salty over her extreme slim-down.

“Amanda is stunned because she’s only ever encouraged and supported Tammy on her weight loss journey,” the source explains. “They got into it over something, the way sisters sometimes do, and instead of dealing with it like an adult, Tammy resorted to this bizarre accusation that Amanda is jealous of her.” 

While the reality star’s recent behavior may seem bizarre to fans who came to know Amanda as a no-nonsense, yet caring, sister who’s always prepared to tell Tammy how it is, it’s not surprising tense feelings among the family are coming to light as their weight loss journey continues, as painful emotions and an unhealthy relationship with food has always been a part of the sisters’ world.

After the sisters’ grandmother, who helped raise them, died when Tammy was just 11 years old, they turned to overeating to deal with their grief. “[We] took it hard and turned to food for comfort,” Tammy explained. Their other sister, Amy Slaton, added, “I started eating my feelings.”

The sudden turn Tammy’s taken with Amanda isn’t just threatening the relationship between the two, but also rattling their entire family. “Amanda is not taking it well and they’ve been going back and forth,” the source continues. “It’s very awkward for Amy and the rest of the family because they are getting put in the middle.” 

The family does have an advantage — they’ve been riding the rollercoaster of stress and worry over Tammy’s health for years and are used to navigating difficult situations. But still, even with their resilience, “Tammy is not backing down on this and is being very catty about it,” the insider continues. “She wants everyone to pick sides.” 

Despite Amanda’s hurt feelings, it seems the plan is to hope Tammy’s nastiness is a phase that will pass as she becomes more confident and continues with her progress. “It’s so childish, but unfortunately no one has the guts to address it head on so there’s just a lot of whispering and talking around it. It’s caused a lot of tension.”
