Taylor Swift has been a polarizing presence while attending Kansas City Chiefs games to support Travis Kelce. Some fans have gone to extremes, even booing Swift being shown at Chiefs games. The team played their first game of the season on September 14 against the Denver Broncos, and “The Life of a Showgirl” artist opted to skip the Emmys to bring some starpower to Arrowhead Stadium. After her husband completed a 59-yard play in the third quarter, cameras immediately cut to Swift celebrating in her suite alongside other members of the Kelce clan. It was only the season opener, but the football fans who love to pop off about Swift had plenty to say. “We just finished week one of the NFL season, and I already have Taylor Swift fatigue!” one viewer wrote on X.

A post circulating on X featured the “Opalite” singer talking in a stadium suite. Using amateur lip-reading that appears to be inaccurate, the creator claimed Swift wanted viewers’ attention directed back to the action on the field rather than the stands. “Even Taylor Swift is SICK of the broadcast cutting to her,” the post said alongside the video, alleging that Swift said, “Don’t show me! Get off of me.”

Members of the Swift Army were quick to pop up in the replies to the viral post that painted the singer as a distraction at the game, and they offered clarification on what she had actually said when the camera was on her. “That’s not what she is saying she said ‘he’s open he’s open get off him,'” one fan wrote, referring to Swift watching replay action of Kelce. “That is *not* what she said. #Lipreading: ‘Oh he’s open, oh he’s open, get off of him,'” another added. Swift also caused a stir by spending time with GQ cover star Tom Cruise at the game.
Taylor Swift has joked about the NFL showing her too often
Tom Cruise also opted to forego the Emmys to take in the Kansas City Chiefs game in the same suite as Taylor Swift. After its cameras captured the two high-profile A-listers having a conversation while seated next to each other, the NFL shared the footage on social media. There was also a clip of Swift and Cruise high-fiving, then sharing a quick hug after the Chiefs scored a touchdown to take a lead in the second quarter. Seeing “The Fate of Ophelia” singer rubbing elbows with the “Mission: Impossible” actor in Kansas City was a surprising sight for many viewers. “Taylor Swift and Tom Cruise at the same NFL game is the kind of celebrity crossover you couldn’t script. Somehow the Broncos vs Chiefs game just became a Hollywood event,” one X user commented.
Tom Cruise’s appearance at an early-season game in Kansas City has seemingly renewed complaints that Swift’s presence has changed the NFL, drawing heightened interest from audiences beyond traditional football fans. Early in her relationship with Travis Kelce, he addressed similar criticism during an October 2023 episode of the “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce. Asked whether the league had gone too far with its coverage of Swift, as some fans argued, Travis replied: “They’re overdoing it a little bit for sure, especially my situation.”
Swift joked about her NFL overexposure when she appeared on the “New Heights” podcast in August 2025. “I think we all know that if there’s one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens — it’s more of me,” Swift playfully said.
