Teddi Mellencamp Says Dad John Asked if She’ll Be in Family Mausoleum

Teddi Mellencamp has had to have tough conversations with her family as she battles cancer. That includes talks with her father, singer John Mellencamp, about her will.

According to Teddi, John, 73, had a question so important that he called her 11 times in a row.

“Finally, I answer, I’m like, ‘I’m in the bath. Let me live a little,’” Teddi, 43, recalled on the Tuesday, April 8, episode of her “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast, which she hosts with Tamra Judge. “He goes, ‘I just want to make sure you’re going to be in our group family mausoleum.”

Teddi said she replied that she has kids and didn’t know where they would go in the mausoleum. (She and her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave share kids Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5. Arroyave is also father to eldest daughter Isabella, from a previous relationship.)

John seemed ready to accommodate all of them at the family mausoleum in Indiana.

“He’s like, ‘Well, there’s going to be the top five and then we’re gonna have little areas around it, and then that’s where everyone’s going to get buried,’” she continued.

“He goes, ‘You’re doing your will right now, so you may as well put it in there,’” she added.

Ultimately, Teddi agreed, adding that, “I’m gonna have to work on my sister next week. The kids will be right behind me.”

Teddi’s morbid humor comes days after she celebrated a major milestone in her cancer treatment, in which she underwent her final radiation treatment. On Thursday, April 3, she celebrated the accomplishment by ringing the ceremonial hospital bell.

She posted a video of the moment via her Instagram Story, in which she read from a plaque under the bell and rang it three times before celebrating with friends off-camera.

“Ringing the bell can signify a major phase of treatment — today was my last day of radiation,” she wrote over the video. “5 more rounds of immunotherapy to go. Love you all for the kind messages.”

Mellencamp first revealed in February that she was being treated for multiple brain tumors. She underwent surgery and has been receiving radiation treatment since then. In late March, doctors found four more tumors on her brain.

“I’m fighting for my life,” she told Us Weekly exclusively in our latest cover story, “But also for my family’s life and all the people I love.”

“This is definitely the hardest thing [I’ve faced in my life], but now it feels less hard,” she added. “When I was in the ICU, it was incredibly difficult because I had no memory. One day, I realized it was my daughter’s birthday, and I couldn’t be there for it; it was really sad. It’s still sad when I can’t be there for my kids the way I’d normally be.”
