Teen Mom stars Catelynn Baltierra (née Lowell) and Tyler Baltierra fired back at claims that they’ve been bashing their daughter Carly’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis.
“Dear everyone who equates us sharing our adoption story as ‘bashing’ Carly’s parents,” Tyler, 33, wrote via his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, February 4. “If a person expresses factual truth & that truth is perceived as ‘bashing, cruel, slander, negative, etc.’ then is the person who delivers that truth wrong/cruel? Or are the facts of that truth wrong/cruel?”
The MTV star continued, “If people are so uncomfortable with the facts regarding that truth, then they should re-evaluate the morality of that truth, instead of condemning & pointing fingers at the ones who just so happen to be delivering that truth. If you possess critical thinking skills, this should make sense to you.”
Catelynn, 32, shared the Story on her own account, cosigning the sentiments.
Fans met Tyler and Catelynn in 2009 during 16 and Pregnant season 1. During their time on the show, Catelynn gave birth to Carly and viewers saw the couple make the heartbreaking decision to allow Brandon and Teresa to adopt her. They opted for an “open” adoption, which meant that Brandon and Teresa could send Tyler and Catelynn photos of Carly throughout the years and they would also be allowed to visit with her in person once a year.
However, the couples have begun butting heads and Catelynn claimed that the rules of Carly’s adoption began to change as she got older. In September 2024, Catelynn claimed that Brandon and Teresa had “blocked” her on social media.
“Adoption is crazy … I’m blocked all because of me sending updates and pictures of her sisters,” Catelynn, who also shares daughters Novalee, Vaeda and Rya with Tyler, wrote via her Instagram Stories at the time. “How is that fair for Carly and her siblings?”

She added, “When you’re a bio mom, you have no say … no control … All I can do is show Carly in the future how much I tried and continued to do so. She can make the decision herself to understand who shut who out.”
In January, Catelynn revealed that she hadn’t seen Carly in almost two years.
“The last time I saw Carly was, like, two years ago,” the MTV star told Us Weekly in an article published on January 29.
While Catelynn confessed that it was “hard” to go so long without seeing Carly, the Teen Mom: The Next Chapter star said that “all [she] really wants” is “whatever [Carly] wants and whatever that looks like for Carly.”
Along with her claims of not seeing Carly, Catelynn alleged that Brandon and Teresa had “basically closed the adoption” on her and Tyler.
“That’s hard. I’ve kind of just jumped into this new place with my adoption to where now I’m speaking to lots of adoptees and I am learning what would’ve helped them, what would’ve benefited them,” Catelynn told the outlet. “Now I’m doing a lot of education about that and teaching other people about the statistics of adoptees and if you’re going to make this decision ever in your life, be knowledgeable about what you’re making.”
