Teresa Giudice shared an unexpected reason why her father rushed her to the hospital just before her wedding. The Real Housewives of New Jersey personality also opened up about discussing the ‘birds and the bees’ with her daughters, particularly her recent conversation with her youngest, Audriana.
Teresa’s family made their way to America from Italy in the early 1970s. Growing up, Italian was her first language, and she only began learning English upon entering school. Teresa has often hinted at the strict nature of her upbringing.
During a chat on Casual Chaos, her daughter Gia Giudice inquired about how Teresa handled the ‘sex talk’ with her children, noting that she had recently discussed it with Audriana.
“I cherish the morning drives to school with my kids because that’s when [Audriana] really opens up to me,” Teresa explained. “Talking about this makes me uncomfortable since it feels private. I believe every mom has her own approach.”
Gia added, “But I feel like your way of doing it is, ‘I can’t believe I’m even having this conversation with you right now, but [blah blah blah] … This shouldn’t even be a topic of conversation right now, [but] just in case, here’s my take.’”
Teresa then shared when her father took her to the doctor’s before her wedding day to make sure she was a virgin.
“Correct,” Teresa agreed. “[I say,] ‘Here’s my take … We should never be having this conversation. You should not be having sex. You should not have sex till like before you get married … This is why my dad told me he was gonna take me to the doctor’s the day before I got married, to make sure I was a virgin.”
Teresa continued with her own speech, “‘You shouldn’t be having sex until right before you get married, but if it happens … make sure you wear a raincoat.’”
“What?” asked Gia. “What are you talking about?”
“The guy has to wear a raincoat … down there,” Teresa explained. “Like over it … Make sure the guy wears a raincoat. And I said that to Audriana.”
“I’ve never heard [it being called] that in my life,” said Gia.
“And I said to her … ‘God forbid, you know you could get sexually transmit diseases. That’s STDs,’” Teresa added. “[I asked], ‘Did you learn that in school?’ And she’s like, ‘Yes. … That’s disgusting.”
Gia said she herself never talked to Teresa about sex, as her mom used to be strict.
“I was so strict,” Teresa agreed. “Remember [what] me and your father used to say anytime you guys made us upset? We’re like, ‘We’re dropping you guys off at the nuns.’ And you guys would all start crying. It was so freaking cute … Oh my God, I can’t believe I said that.”
