The Deckers Drop Out Of Special Forces After Eric's Brutal Injury

Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test is certainly not a show for the timid. This reality series thrusts celebrities into extreme physical challenges that mirror the rigorous demands of actual military training.

The unique aspect of the show is its open-ended nature—participants aren’t required to reach a set endpoint. Instead, they have the freedom to exit whenever they wish, a feature that adds an intriguing layer of personal choice. This season, a notable married couple joined the ranks, only to bow out together after one partner suffered an injury.

This time around, Eric and Jessie James Decker took on the daunting trials. Jessie, renowned as a singer and songwriter, joined her husband Eric, a former NFL athlete who played with the Broncos, Jets, and Titans during his career. Their participation hinted at great promise until unforeseen circumstances led to their joint departure.

Eric And Jessie James Decker Competed Together

This season on the show, married couple Eric and Jessie James Decker decided to try their hand at the challenge. Jessie is an accomplished singer and songwriter, and Eric is a former NFL player who played for the Broncos, Jets, and Titans throughout the course of his professional career.

At first, the pair seemed to be like some of the most promising celebs on the season. It was on Day 6 when they faced a particularly harsh challenge, one called “Murder Ball” in which the participants had to physically fight for a ball in the middle of a mud pit.

Jessie previously explained that she was excited for her husband to have another chance at physical competition since his retirement from football. She shared with the cameras why she thought it would be good for him:

Eric hasn’t had this kind of physical challenge since he’s played football. I want him to have that time again.

Eric’s Back Injury Got The Best Of Him

While Eric often seemed like one of the strongest in the bunch, he had to battle it out for several rounds in the mud pit, going up against fellow participants Andrew East, Randall Cobb, Mark Estes and Kody Brown. In the end, he told production that he felt like something had popped in his back, making it impossible for him to continue.

At first, Eric tried to forge on, saying he was willing to work through the pain:

I’m gonna push myself ’til exhaustion. My attitude and determination, I feel like, will push me through. I know it’s going to be difficult. I’m gonna do it until my body says ‘no.’

By the end, however, the show’s doctor, Andy Brown, pulled Eric aside, saying he shouldn’t push himself physically any longer. While Eric felt like something had pulled in his back, Dr. Brown explained that he was worried about the pressure that Eric was putting on his hip. “I’m concerned we can’t inflict any more punishment on your hip. I don’t think that we can really safely let you carry on,” he said.

With no other choice, Eric was forced to bring his time on the show to a close. He seemed disappointed, telling the cameras that he didn’t consider himself a quitter, and that it wasn’t an ideal way to go out. Not wanting to leave him alone, Jessie also stepped forward and announced that she would be leaving with her husband.

It seemed like the couple had previously discussed staying on the show for the same amount of time together. “We ride together, we fly together,” Jessie emphasized before their exit.
