The ongoing strain within the Beckham family was largely responsible for Romeo Beckham’s recent breakup with his girlfriend Kim Turnbull.

“Romeo and Kim did split because of the family drama,” a source close to the family exclusively told Us Weekly. “It was mutual. It was just too much pressure and tension looming over them.”

The source added, “It put a lot of strain on them and there was no path forward. It was unfortunate that it got to that point, but family comes first for Romeo.”

Beckham, 22, and Turnbull, 26, split last month after seven months together.

The couple’s relationship was said to be at the center of the fracture between Beckham and his older brother, Brooklyn. 

Brooklyn, 26, and his wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, did not attend their father David Beckham’s birthday party in London on May 3 in an effort to avoid being in the same room as Romeo and Turnbull. 

“David and Victoria [Beckham] are hopeful the boys will mend things soon,” the insider said. “They just want their family to be at peace and whole again.”

A second source close to the family denied that Romeo and Turnbull’s breakup had anything to do with the Beckhams’ current turmoil. 

“Romeo and Kim’s split had nothing to do with family issues,” the source said. “They just drifted apart. They’re young and both focused on their careers.”

For the time being, Romeo and the rest of his family — including the boys’ mother, Victoria — have not been in touch with Brooklyn. 

“Brooklyn has not reached out,” the source noted. “He is doing his own thing right now. There was a lot of damage done and he is adamant about his space. He is continuing to keep them at a distance. It will take a lot of time.”

“Brooklyn loves his family but he will always stand by his wife,” the insider explained, while a third source added: “A lot of damage was done by his family, and Brooklyn needs space to heal.” 

Last month, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that “bad blood” continues to simmer between Victoria, 51, and Peltz, 30, after Peltz and Brooklyn’s April 2022 wedding 

“Things never really got smoothed over, and you can tell it still affects everyone,” the source shared. “The tension is still present and it’s hard for Brooklyn at times. Brooklyn’s having a tough time with it.”

The insider explained, “He completely supports and stands by Nicola, and it has put a rift in his relationship with his parents. Nicola is outspoken and that is what has caused tension with his parents. She will defend Brooklyn a lot and is defensive. Brooklyn will always be on Nicola’s side, and that’s made things even more tense between him and his parents.”
