The wait is finally over! Season 6 of The Kardashians is finally back — and the reality TV family is booked and busy.

The premiere episode of the season shows that each of the family members is busy with work and family. In the midst of the chaos, could there also be room for romance for Kim and Khloé?

Kris Sets The Tone For The Season

We open the season with the family lounging by the pool together. Kris says that it’s a huge year for their family, not the least of which is because Khloé will be turning 40. “I’m in my trying to get s*** done era,” Kris tells the cameras, saying that she wants to spend more time with her grandchildren and her mother and also try to eat better.

Meanwhile, Kim says she’s heading to the White House to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris. She also says that Ryan Murphy’s expressed an interest in doing a collab with her clothing line, Skims. She seems to have a lot on her mind — she mentions that she’s also juggling being a “Momager” for her daughter, North.

For her part, Kourtney says she’s fully focused on her role as a mom and stepmom:

Next we pick up with Khloé, who laments that everyone keeps asking about her dating life. She tells the cameras that she thinks of Lamar as the love of her life, but that she hasn’t really seen him since 2016. She confesses she’s held on to quite a few of his things, and now she’s considering reaching out to him to return them.

“It felt like the most purest love I’ve ever had,” Khloé says, though she did note that there were of course some “dark” moments, notably when he overdosed in a brothel and wound up in a coma. She resolves that she wants to return his belongings to him so that she can officially close the door on that chapter of her life.

Later, the women gather to celebrate Kourtney’s 45th birthday at the IHOP in Tarzana. This plays on a family tradition of “snatching” family members and taking them to the pancake house to celebrate her big day as a surprise. Over a breakfast of pancakes and waffles, Kourtney says that her goals for the year include taking her baby Rocky to Disney for the first time and trying to swap out saying “yeah” for “yes.” She even teases that she asks the editors of the show to take out all the times she uses the word “like.”

Meanwhile, Khloé explains that she’s in the process of launching her own podcast, which will focus on everything she’s “curious” about in life at the moment. She and Kim tease their mother for pulling strings with their agent, Brad, behind their backs, and Kim jokes to the camera that maybe she should stop giving her Momager a 10% cut of her earnings.

Kim heads to DC to meet with Kamala Harris, suffering a quick wardrobe malfunction when she realizes her cleavage is too much, changing in the car and putting on her sports bra so that she can have a higher neckline. During the meeting with the Vice President, Kim speaks about how passionate she is about helping those who have been released from prison find their way back into society.

Khloé Meets Up With Lamar

Khloé heads to Malika’s house to meet up with Lamar, who she’ll be seeing for the first time in nine years. She notes that she’s nervous but feeling emotionally steady about the meeting:

That said, Khloé tells the cameras she thinks this is the perfect time to seek some closure with Lamar, just before she turns 40. It’ll allow her to be “fresh and free” afterward. That said, she grows frustrated when he’s nearly an hour late to meet.

When Lamar finally arrives, he comes with a bundle of roses, a cake, and champagne. He’s profusely sweating, clearly nervous to see her. Seeing him, Khloé says he feels both familiar and foreign all at the same time. “I don’t want anyone to be that uncomfortable,” she tells the cameras. “He’s just making me even more uncomfortable.”

To break the tension, she gifts him a diamond chain with three angel wings to represent his grandmother, mother, and son. “My wife is the s***,” he jokes, which Khloé doesn’t appreciate but lets roll off all the same. She explains that with all the trauma she endured from their relationship, learning how to “unlove” him has been more like a death than a breakup.

“I love you for trying your hardest,” he says. “But I don’t think [my love] will ever go away.” Before we can see how Khloé responds to such a vulnerable confession, the episode ends, and we’ll have to wait until next week to see where they leave things. In the teaser for the next episode, however, we see that Lamar and Khloé might be in an argument, possibly dredging up the ghosts of past drama. Will they ever be able to put their heartbreak to rest?
