Since Louis Orr’s death was announced, various sports professionals and organizations have released heartbreaking statements about the beloved former athlete and coach on social media. Acclaimed basketball coach Jim Boeheim described the late Knicks player as one of “the greatest men” he’s ever known. “He came into my life as my first recruit, became a fantastic coach and colleague—but most importantly, he became a dear friend,” Boeheim wrote on Twitter. Syracuse University men’s basketball team echoed the sentiments, tweeting: “We mourn the loss of an Orange legend – a player, a coach, and most importantly a great person who made everyone around him better.”

Former NBA star Patrick Ewing, who was Orr’s Knicks teammate and Georgetown University coaching colleague, also expressed his sadness over his “great friend’s” passing in a touching tribute. “Someone who has been in my life since I was 22 years old,” Ewing wrote. “We developed a friendship and a brotherhood. He was always someone I could talk to… Louis Orr will be truly missed.” Fortunately Orr’s legacy will continue to live on in his wife, Yvette, and their children, Monica and Chauncey. May Louis Orr rest in peace.
