The Traitors Season 3 has been reality TV’s most anticipated show of the new year. Hosted by the beloved Alan Cumming, the show is known to cast memorable reality stars, and this season did not disappoint.

This season saw an influx of Real Housewives stars (some of whom have already got murdered thanks to chosen traitor Bob the Drag Queen) and former competition-style reality show stars like Big Brother’s Danielle Reyes, Britney Haynes, and Derrick Levasseur, as well as Survivor all-stars like Tony Vlachos, Carolyn Wiger, and Rob Mariano. There’s also reality TV’s ultimate villain, Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Sandoval, who shocked fans by surviving in the first three episodes.

However, as the cast all gathered together to meet each other before the game began, many were confused as to who exactly Sam Asghari was. He certainly is not a reality TV star. In fact, many did not know that he was the ex-husband of Britney Spears.

Dorinda Medley Had No Idea Sam Asghari Was Britney Spears’ Ex-Husband

Dorinda Admitted To “Mothering” Sam During Her Short-Stint On The Show

Dorinda Medley was sadly the first to be murdered on The Traitors Season 3. However, during her short-lived stay at the Ardross Castle in Scotland, she got to know a few of her cast members on a personal level, most notably, Sam Asghari.

However, in an interview with Sirus XM’s The Julia Cunningham Show, the former Real Housewives of New York City star had no clue that she was speaking to Britney Spears’ ex-husband.

“I was advising him about how it is to go through a divorce and asked, ‘What does your wife do?’ and finally, [Britney Haynes is] like, ‘Dorinda, that is Britney Spears’ ex.’ I had no idea.'”

Dorinda went on to state that she wasn’t very pop culture savvy. “You know … I’m very good at being in this world and very good at being not in this world and I think that’s how I’ve kept my sanity all these years. I get very present in whatever I’m doing, so when I’m at Blue Stone Manor, it’s all about Blue Stone Manor. When I’m at SiriusXM, I’m not a person that sits there and reads every tweet and goes through everything.”

While speaking to Sam about his divorce from Britney, Dorinda, who still didn’t know who he was, shared that her motherly instincts kicked in.

“I was like, ‘Are you heartbroken?’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re young, you’ll meet someone again. I’m sure she was great.’ And Britney [Haynes] was like, ‘What is wrong with you?'” Dorinda added, “I was mothering him because that’s what I naturally do.”

Several Of The Traitors Season 3 Cast Did Not Recognize Sam

Sam Asghari Isn’t A Reality TV Star

It sort of makes sense that several of these reality TV stars had no idea who Sam was. He isn’t on any reality TV show and is only really known as Britney Spears’ ex-husband.

The Bachelorette star Wells Adams admitted to Entertainment Weekly that he struggled to figure out who Sam was when he entered the competition.

“I didn’t know Sam,” Wells admitted. “I know who Britney Spears is, but I don’t know some random ex of Britney Spears.”

And, Wells wasn’t the only The Traitors star to express that he didn’t exactly know Sam. During a YouTube live stream, Bob the Drag Queen was also stumped. “I did not know this man was Britney Spears’ ex-husband. I don’t know him, I do not know this man … He’s a nice guy — to me. He might not be nice, I don’t know. I can’t vouch for anything beyond that,” Bob shared.

Bob the Drag Queen also shared that one of his cast mates, Nikki Bella, thought Sam was a completely different reality TV star.

“I was really tickled because at this point we’re like all trying to find out who each other are and everyone’s trying to find out, ‘Who is Sam?'” And then at one point Nikki [Bella] was like, ‘I think that’s Davide [Sanclimenti] from Love Island.'”

Bob then shared a photo of Davide and stated, “This is Davide, and that does honestly look like Sam. Honestly, easy mistake to make.”

The Former Couple’s Divorce Was Finalized In May 2024

While Sam made a career for himself as an actor, it would be his romance with the pop icon that would be most talked about. Sam and Britney first met on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video in October 2016, and by the following month, were rumored to be dating.

The couple shortly went Instagram official and would share posts of one another, including sharing birthday shoutouts and vacations. Sam was also very supportive during the #FreeBritney movement in which she wanted to gain control of her life and end her years-long conservatorship.

“Sam has been Britney’s rock for years. He makes sure that she eats well and works out,” a source told People. “She leans on him for everything. He works and has his own life too, but is around as much as he can.” In November 2021, Britney’s conservatorship ended.

The couple got married in June 2022, following the loss of their unborn baby. In August 2023, Sam filed for divorce from the songstress. Per TMZ, It was alleged that Britney was unfaithful to her husband and had physically assaulted him. In an Instagram statement, he shared:

“AFTER 6 YEARS OF LOVE AND COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER MY WIFE AND I HAVE DECIDED TO END OUR JOURNEY TOGETHER,” he wrote. “WE WILL HOLD ONTO THE LOVE AND RESPECT WE HAVE FOR EACH OTHER AND I WISH HER THE BEST ALWAYS.”

Asghari continued: “S— HAPPENS. ASKING FOR PRIVACY SEEMS [RIDICULOUS] SO I WILL JUST ASK FOR EVERYONE … TO BE KIND AND THOUGHTFUL.”

In May 2024, their divorce was finalized and, with a prenup in place, Sam did not get anything from his ex-wife. In fact, he has yet to speak about his former marriage on The Traitors.

The Traitors is a reality competition series that features celebrity and civilian contestants vying for a grand prize. They must engage in challenges while trying to uncover the traitors in their midst. Based on the Dutch series, The US incarnation of Traitors is hosted by actor Alan Cumming. As the faithful try to avoid being “murdered” by the traitors, the traitors must work together to evade banishment.
