Once again, President Trump has taken to social media, and his recent post wreaked havoc in a matter of seconds. The President posted an edited TIME Magazine cover that showed him wearing a crown. The White House captioned the post calling the president a king, which of course, caused a lot of controversy.

As more and more people, both average citizens and other politicians, react to the confusing post, the scandal continues to grow. Here’s what went on and the consequences so far:

The White House is facing some intense backlash following President Donald Trump’s recent social media post on Truth Social.

“CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!”

The President wrote this in celebration of his administration’s bid to end federal approval of New York’s auto toll instituted to raise money to improve the mass transit system.

Despite the backlash coming from the Truth Social post, the President didn’t back down, and soon, the White House’s official Instagram had reposted the controversial fake TIME cover, causing even more scandal, as the platform is considerably more popular.

People have been commenting on the post, both in support of the President and condemning his strange choice of words, but the impact of Donald Trump’s words goes way beyond causing political debates amid social media followers, and soon, other elected officials started weighing in on the scandal.

Unsurprisingly, Gov. Kathy Hochul felt the need to respond after Donald Trump’s post, and she made it clear that she would not yield unless she had to. Additionally, she called out the President for calling himself a king.

“President Donald Trump tweeted, ‘Long live the king.’ I’m here to say New York hasn’t labored under a king in over 250 years,” she told reporters at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

“And we sure as hell are not going to start now.”

Of course, it didn’t end there.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who made it clear that the federal government has jurisdiction over highways in New York, spoke up in support of the president and against “congestion pricing.”

“New York State’s congestion pricing plan is a slap in the face to working class Americans and small business owners,” he said in statement shortly after. “Commuters using the highway system to enter New York City have already financed the construction and improvement of these highways through the payment of gas taxes and other taxes.”

At this point, it doesn’t look like the scandal surrounding Donald Trump’s post will die down any time soon, but no matter how impactful the fake cover was, it’s clear that the political implications go way beyond any eye-catching image and strong statement that could be posted on social media.
