During the 10th season of Chicago Med, the long-lasting TV show underwent a lot of dramatic improvements that have been great. Aside from the fact that fans have been sad to see Dr. Daniel Charles go through more misery, it was great that characters like Sharon Goodwin have gotten great storylines. On top of that, Chicago Med’s 10th season has also featured the return of several characters from the show’s lengthy past.
While fans love seeing characters from the past return, those events can be disappointing when they aren’t handled well. However, Chicago Med fans were happy to see that one character’s return after a five-year absence was handled to perfection.
The Return Of Robin Charles To Chicago Med Was Handled Perfectly
Since the first episode of Chicago Med premiered on November 17, 2015, fans of NBC’s medical drama have been introduced to many fascinating characters. Sadly for viewers, a lot of the show’s most compelling characters wound up exiting for a variety of different reasons.
During the show’s second season, Robin Charles appeared for the first time. After that introduction, Robin became a huge part of the show’s most dramatic storylines for a while. Then, to the shock of many viewers, Robin was written out of the show and disappeared.
Just as suddenly as Robin departed Chicago Med, the character made a return during the 10th season. Even though the storyline could easily have been handled poorly, Chicago Med fans should rejoice because Robin’s return was handled to perfection.
During the 21st episode of Chicago Med’s 10th season, which aired on May 14th, 2025, Mekia Cox returned as her character Robin Charles. The character also appeared during the following episode, the finale of Chicago Med’s 10th season, which was the 22nd episode.

It was the first time that Robin appeared on Chicago Med since the character last appeared during the 9th episode of Season 5, which first aired on November 20th, 2019. That meant that it had been more than five years since fans last saw Robin onscreen when the character returned.
From the first moment that Robin appeared onscreen during her return episode, it seemed great. After all, the show gave fans something that they wanted to see for many years but were always denied for no good reason.
For those that don’t know, Robin is the daughter of one of Chicago Med’s best characters, Dr. Daniel Chales. Dr. Charles has another daughter, Anna Charles. Even though Robin and Anna are half-sisters, the characters were never really involved with each other. Since both characters were given so much screen time, fans always wanted to see Anna and Robin as sisters. Thankfully, Robin and Anna both entered the 10th season by walking into a scene together.
Just like the character Robin Charles, Anna Charles had been absent from Chicago Med for several years. The difference was that Anna had only been gone for two years since the character last appeared during an episode that first aired on March 29th, 2023.
As great as it was to see the characters together, what happened next was even better. As the older sister, Robin was shown to be very protective of Anna, and it was made clear that they are a big part of each other’s lives.
Best of all, the characters’ connection wasn’t instantly revealed in a monologue about their relationship. Instead, fans were allowed to figure out that the sisters are close since they speak perfectly naturally about spending time together. Furthermore, when another shoe drops involving the little sister, it becomes clear that, after she dropped out of school, Anna turned to Robin for help.
Since she left Chicago Med behind more than five years ago, Robin Charles’ actor, Mekia Cox, has been very busy in terms of her impressive career. Most notably, Mekia has been starring in The Rookie since 2019.
During the follow-up episode, Robin also sticks up for what Anna needs from their father in a truly painful moment for all three characters. After years of wanting Robin and Anna to come together, it is hard to imagine how it could get better than that while still fitting the tone of Chicago Med.
The other huge reason why Robin’s return is so great is because of how the character was portrayed. In order to explain that, you have to look at the character’s history.
Before she left Chicago Med five years ago, Robin was revealed to have serious mental health issues. After trying to figure out how to treat herself with the help of her boyfriend on the show at the time, Robin had to be hospitalized.
In the history of television, it has often been clear that there are some storylines that showrunners can’t seem to ignore. For example, if a character on a drama series has addiction or mental health issues, they are almost certainly going to be defined by that and relapsing.
The thing that showrunners really need to remember is that people with mental health issues can live full and complete lives after finding the right treatment. As a result, it was delightful that when Robin returned, she appeared to be in a great place in her life.
In fact, the only way that Robin’s mental health history came up during her return was based on the wisdom she had attained due to her past. When her little sister Anna is revealed to be struggling with her mental health, Robin uses her ability to empathize with what she is going through to advocate for her little sister.
Robin Charles’ Chicago Med Return Only Needs One More Thing To Happen
At the end of Chicago Med’s 10th season, Dr. Daniel Charles and Anna Charles shared a truly powerful scene. After the two characters were more honest with each other than they’d ever been, they realized that they can work together to help Anna through her mental health issues.
After how beautiful everything was with Anna, Robin, and Dr. Charles during Chicago Med’s 10th season, one thing could ruin it all.
If Robin and Anna’s returns are ended prematurely, it will be a betrayal of everything that has been built.
For that reason, Robin has to be a part of Chicago Med’s 11th season. While Robin doesn’t have to be in every episode, or even a lot necessarily, it will be wrong if she doesn’t continue to be there for Anna.
Similarly, the character Anna can’t disappear again. Instead, fans need to see a lot of Anna after that incredibly powerful scene.
