Tina Fey, along with her husband Jeff Richmond, is a proud parent to two daughters, Alice and Penelope Richmond. While both girls bear a striking resemblance to their comedic mother, it’s Alice, the elder, who truly mirrors Fey. Born on September 10, 2005, Alice shares Fey’s complexion, facial structure, and those signature dark brown tresses. The most discernible difference lies in their eye color—Fey’s are brown, whereas Alice has inherited her father’s blue gaze. Beyond this, Alice is unmistakably her mother’s double!

Alice appears to have also inherited Fey’s comedic flair. Renowned for her work on “Mean Girls,” “Saturday Night Live,” and “30 Rock,” Fey mentioned that Alice is dabbling in comedy as well. Speaking with Damian Holbrook at HISTORYTalks in April 2026, Fey shared, “She’s trying it out in college,” as noted by People. Although their comedic journeys stem from distinct origins, Fey acknowledges the uniqueness of Alice’s path compared to her own. “We took different roads to get here—who can predict the outcome?” Fey mused.
The contrast is indeed significant. Fey’s career ascent occurred later in life, while Alice had been acting professionally years earlier. Back in 2012, Alice made a memorable appearance on “30 Rock” during its seventh season, portraying a young version of Fey’s character. Despite her impressive performance, Alice opted to step away from scripted roles, preferring to work behind the scenes. With Fey’s extensive experience in both arenas, she undoubtedly serves as an invaluable mentor to Alice—at least, you might think so!
Despite Tina Fey’s status as one of comedy’s leading female writers, her daughter Alice Richmond hasn’t always been her biggest fan. During an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in October 2017, Fey recounted a humorous exchange with Alice. When Fey suggested Alice watch “30 Rock,” her daughter’s reaction was a surprise. “She told me, ‘it’s too weird for me’,” Fey revealed, as reported by Refinery 29. Fey joked, “I asked if it was because I pretended to be in love with someone other than her dad, and she simply said, ‘no, it’s just too weird!’ That stung as a mom.”
At just 12 years old, Alice’s tastes may have still been evolving, or she might simply prefer a different comedic style than her mother’s. Regardless, Fey has come to terms with not being perceived as cool by her daughter, a sentiment echoed by her “Mean Girls” co-star Amy Poehler. “You’re never cool to your kids,” Fey told People in December 2023, and she’s embraced that reality. “You’re not supposed to be, and there’s no point in trying,” she concluded. “Just let it be!”

Fey made the hilarious admission during an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in October 2017. After Fey encouraged Alice, who was on a comedy binge, to check out “30 Rock,” she had a shocking response. “She came to me and was like, ‘it’s too weird for me’” said Fey (via Refinery 29). “I asked her, it is because mommy had to pretend to be in love with someone who isn’t daddy?” She continued, “And then, in true tween behavior, Alice answers, ‘no, it’s just too weird for me!’ That was a hard motherly hit.”
Of course, Alice was only 12 years old at the time, so perhaps her tastes hadn’t matured yet. Or it’s possible that she just enjoys a different brand of humor than her mother produces. Either way, Fey has long accepted that, unlike her “Mean Girls” co-star Amy Poehler, she’s not a cool mom (at least in the eyes of her daughter). “You’re never cool [to your kids],” Fey told People in December 2023. However, it’s a fate she’s not interested in fighting. “No, you’re never cool, and you shouldn’t try to be,” she continued, adding, “Just let it happen!”
