Travis Kelce, widely recognized as the standout tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and the fiancé of pop sensation Taylor Swift, actually has a lesser-known stint in reality television. Nearly a decade ago, Travis stepped into the spotlight as the star of his own dating show, Catching Kelce, where a contestant from each of the 50 states vied for his affection.
Although the show has faded from public memory, Travis has since admitted that participating in it was not a decision he would repeat. He has acknowledged that, at the time, he was too immature to fully understand the implications of starring in a dating show or to genuinely pursue a committed relationship. Despite this, his brother can’t resist poking fun at him about it on their joint podcast.
During a recording of their podcast, New Heights, Travis faced a playful interrogation from his brother, Jason, about his past reality TV escapade. Jason humorously posed a choice between enduring an endless loop of Catching Kelce or opting for a Brazilian wax, keeping the sibling banter lively and entertaining.
Travis Refuses To Rewatch His Show
Travis was confronted with questions about his reality TV show while filming an episode of his podcast, New Heights, with his brother, Jason. It was Jason who asked whether he’d rather be “forced and tortured watching Catching Kelce on a loop for the rest of [his] life,” or “get Brazilian waxed.”
Travis made his choice abundantly clear with his answer:
I’d rather get Brazilian waxed. Are you kidding me? Yeah, I’d rather just get my gooch waxed.
“The worst thing I ever did was the dating show,” Travis continued “Catching Kelce was the worst f****** thing I ever did.” Reflecting back on his dating show, he added that, at the time, he didn’t have a good understanding of what reality TV actually was. He even claimed that he tried to turn down the show five times before ultimately agreeing to it.
“I don’t even think anybody watched it. It was just 50 women from 50 states,” he joked.
Travis’ Teammates Still Tease Him About The Show
Though Travis has left his dating show in the past, it would seem like his teammates still haven’t. In the same episode of the podcast, he noted that some of his fellow players still teased him about it.
While he refuses to go back and rewatch the show, it does bother him that there’s such a permanent record of that chapter of his life:
I was like, ‘Oh, s***. Everybody is going to be able to see this forever.’ I was like, ‘G****** it… I was getting smoked all season for that. It was fun, though. I mean, it’s locker room banter. It’s all fun.”
At the end of the series, Travis did end up choosing a final contestant, Maya Benberry. The two dated for a while in real-life, though they eventually called it quits in 2017. Travis would go on to spark a relationship with pop singer Taylor Swift in 2023, with their engagement following shortly thereafter.
