Tulsi Gabbard, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, has certainly set herself apart from the typical MAGA crowd with her choice of life partner, Abraham Williams. While age-gap relationships are not uncommon among Trump’s circle, Gabbard’s relationship stands out. Unlike the usual dynamic of an older man and younger woman, Gabbard, who celebrated her 44th birthday in April 2025, is the senior partner in her marriage. Williams is seven years her junior, a contrast to couples like Donald and Melania Trump or Karoline Leavitt and Nicholas Riccio, where the man is significantly older.
Gabbard and Williams tied the knot in 2015 when they were both relatively young. At the time, Gabbard, still identifying as a Democrat, was 33 years old, while Williams was 26. As reported by The New York Times, their wedding followed a unique proposal. Williams popped the question while they were surfing, a gesture that clearly charmed Gabbard, leading her to say yes. The youthful and spontaneous nature of the proposal perhaps reflects Williams’ age and outlook.
It’s evident that Gabbard cherishes her relationship with a younger partner. Before their marriage, she was openly enthusiastic about her then-fiancé. In an interview with KHON2 in February 2015, she expressed her admiration, “He’s incredibly optimistic and positive, so I could go on and on. I could continue gushing, but I just feel grateful because I get to marry a wonderful person who’s also my best friend.” Gabbard’s words reflect a deep affection and appreciation for her husband.
While age-gap relationships can be a source of curiosity or discomfort for some, Gabbard appears to be content with her choice. Over time, the former U.S. representative has not shied away from sharing her admiration and love for Abraham Williams, reiterating her happiness in their union.
Tulsi Gabbard and Abraham Williams are still going strong
Tulsi Gabbard is one of many politicians in an age-gap romance that may be uncomfortable to some. However, she’s clearly happy with her decision. Over the years, the former U.S. representative has endlessly waxed poetic about her husband, Abraham Williams.
For example, Gabbard marked their 10-year wedding anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram caption, accompanying shots from their wedding and life together. “I can’t believe it’s already been ten years since we got married,” she wrote. “Darling, I’m so blessed and grateful to be married to you — my best friend, my partner in all things, my surf buddy, my rock, my confidant, and the one who always finds a way to make me laugh.” Gabbard also revealed that Williams sang to her the day they got married and had “proven the lyrics to be true.” Â
More recently, Gabbard proved that cupid may actually know that Trumpland exists. Although she missed the holiday by a day in 2026, Gabbard’s Valentine’s Day post for Williams read as sweet rather than cringe. “@abrahamwilliamsdp You are my forever valentine,” she wrote on Instagram. “I love you with all my heart and am endlessly grateful for you.”
