TV personality  Ulrika Jonsson shared a “drunk” selfie to celebrate reaching her one-year sobriety journey. In the candid Instagram post, the 57-year-old opened up about ditching the booze and revealed how going sober has changed her life.

The former Gladiators host accompanied her post with two selfies to highlight her transformation and how far she’s come since choosing a clear-headed lifestyle. In the emotional caption, Ulrika revealed that she would “black out and not recall the night” during her drinking days. She candidly admitted to using alcohol to “kill my feelings of anxiety and my fears of everything,” as she told her followers, “the journey goes on.”

She captioned the before and after snaps: “Today I’m marking 1yr of sobriety. No fanfare, no medal, no trophy. The journey goes on.

“A huge thanks to all those beautiful people who have supported me; understood me; scooped me up and handled me tenderly and without judgement; who nudged me in the right direction; who made me laugh and helped me shed the crippling shame.”

The star honoured her four children, Cameron, 30, Bo, 25, Martha, 20, and Malcolm, 16, and apologised for the concern she has caused them. She added: “Thank you to my kids for their support; for having faith in me after I must have worried them so.”

“For close friends for their patience and belief. My sobriety will continue to be my priority. Turns out it IS possible to teach old dogs new tricks,” she concluded.

Among the hundreds of fans in the comments, many of Ulrika’s celebrity pals shared their messages of support, including Kerry Katona wrote: “So bloody proud of you my darling. Miss and love you all the world.” Michelle Heaton added: “So happy for you darling.”

One fan commented: “Well done on the first of many anniversaries of sobriety @ulrikajonssonofficial. You have chosen to be and do better and that is a huge transition and not without its challenges so, all props to you and long may it continue for you to reap the rewards.”

Another added: “Congratulations, the best people I know are the sober ones. Alcohol is no one’s friend.” In October, Ulrika lifted the lid on her decision to go booze-free and how she realised that her relationship with alcohol was a destructive one.

The presenter revealed that she used to use alcohol to “remember the good times” and would often “black out” after binge drinking alone. In December, she marked her six-month sober milestone and credited her loved ones for helping her get this far.
