Though once both were stars of Vanderpump Rules, things have grown incredibly tense between cast members Scheana Shay and Lala Kent. The two reality TV darlings have had many friendship ups and downs over the years, but the latest news seems to be that the two women are on the outs.
Scheana has most recently been touring for the release of her new memoir, My Good Side, and during the tour she’s been opening up about the state of their relationship. So what, exactly, is the reason for the two growing distant from one another?
Scheana Says The Drama Started With Brock’s Affair
Longtime followers of Vanderpump Rules will recall that Scheana’s ex-husband Brock Davies had an affair while the pair was still married. As reported by Reality Blurb, Scheana says that her drama with Lala first began when Lala involved herself in the gossip surrounding the infidelity.
While Lala has cited other reasons why she and Scheana are no longer close, Scheana has since set the record straight that the real reason she was upset with her was because she spread the news about Brock’s cheating to other people in their life.
Scheana was clear in explaining the reason for her distance from Lala:
Lala knows why our friendship is in the state that it’s in, and on that podcast she did not take accountability. It was not about the book post or her saying that nothing she ever does will be good enough. It was not about that. It was that not one, but two of my closest friends [who] repeated the Brock affair story to other people.
“I told [Lala] in February. I found out a week before I left for my book tour that she told Jenna around February,” she said, detailing the precise timeline. “She did it to humanize me, because she said that [Jenna] was going so hard on me… [Lala] wanted to tell her about what I was actually going through. Now I understand the intent was not malicious… But this is someone I have had a friendship with for 15 years,” she added.
Scheana Said There Have Been Other Issues In The Friendship
Though this may have been the start of issues within the friendship, it seems it only laid the groundwork for other issues to come along as well. Scheana went on to say that there had been at least two other incidents that had driven her away from Lala, and that, for now, she wasn’t interested in repairing the friendship.
One of the incidents, Scheana revealed, involved both her child and Lala’s child, which was a step too far for her:
There had been two things prior to that where we were already rocky, and this just tipped me over. She called me at a time when my kid was in the car [and] her kid was in the car, screaming and yelling at me, cussing over a playdate being overheard. And it was just like, ‘You couldn’t give me some grace?’ You know there’s no malicious intent, especially when it comes to the kids.
Scheana also claims that she’s not the only one from the Vanderpump Rules cast who feels this way about Lala. When pressed to name names, she revealed that her costar Ariana Maddix also had similar feelings about Lala, and that the two would even joke about her behavior in the past.
“I remember Ariana and I would talk about this before every reunion, like, ‘Oh, are we ready for the Lala apology tour?’” she said. “Every year she’d treat me like s*** and then come to the reunion and cry and apologize. And I would forgive her. And it was just like a rinse and repeat. [Now] I want to place boundaries and have a little more respect for myself and the circle that I’m keeping. I want it to be people I trust,” she added.
It would appear that fans are split about whether they believe Scheana’s side of the story. Some of them pointed out that while she claimed to have been betrayed by Lala, she herself wasn’t always the most faithful friend to Ariana. In the comments, some fans noted it was hypocritcal for Scheana to say this about Lala, as when Ariana learned of her then-husband’s affair, Scheana was often supportive of Tom during the fallout.
“They kept sticking up for Tom Sandoval. Stayed in contact with him. Went hard about Ariana refusing to film with him. At least that’s what I remember. [But] maybe there’s more to it than that,” wrote one user.
