One of the biggest heartbreaks in reality TV last year was that of Craig Conover and Paige DeSorbo of Southern Charm. The pair had been in a long-distance relationship for more than three years before they officially called it quits in November 2024.
Since then, there’s been lots of drama in the wake of their split, including the news that Craig froze sperm before the breakup, that he should’ve seen the writing on the wall about the relationship’s demise, and that he may have even fueled rumors about Paige cheating on him. Now, the latest tea is that Craig and Paige had apparently discussed the kind of engagement ring she wanted, and Craig even bought it for her.
Craig Opened Up To Shep Rose About Buying A Ring For Paige
The big reveal came from Craig’s side, when he was talking to his good friend Shep during an episode of the show. While those who have since criticized Paige tend to feel like she strung him along, making it seem like she would eventually move to be with him in Charleston when she actually wanted to stay in New York, Craig’s conversation with Shep revealed that things were perhaps not as one-sided as they may have initially seemed.
Though Shep had previously claimed that, when it came to Craig and Paige’s relationship, it didn’t seem like his buddy was the one “driving this bus,” Craig explained that he and Paige had talked enthusiastically about getting engaged:
She asked me to buy her a ring and, like, I did.
Contrary to what fans may have thought, then, it seems like the move towards an engagement was a mutual one. So what did the ring actually look like?
Craig Explained The Details Of The Ring
Later on in the episode, Craig shared with his friends that he planned on proposing to Paige soon, likely before the end of the year — a bittersweet comment in hindsight, as the two wound up breaking up shortly before New Year’s. To make things even more heartbreaking, Craig went on to share details of what the engagement ring actually looked like.
He explained that he had come to his then-girlfriend with a sheet of potential engagement ring designs and “told her to pick her favorite.” As it turns out, Paige opted for an emerald cut with an elongated cushion as her style of choice. If that doesn’t speak to her readiness to take their commitment to the next level, then we don’t know what does!
That said, things apparently continued to go downhill for the couple, not the least of which was because they couldn’t agree on where to settle down. Those familiar with the show will know that it’s been Craig’s dream for a while to remain in Charleston, perhaps getting a farm and settling down to raise a family. This image, apparently, wasn’t as idyllic for Paige herself.
To the cameras, Craig disclosed what his ideal scenario would be for his shared life with Paige:
This is my fantasy: Paige and I would get chickens and have a baby. Maybe I grill us some hot dogs for lunch, check on our bees. It would be our own little sanctuary.
Craig even went on to admit some of this to Paige herself. “Sometimes I do fall into that fantasyland of being like, ‘Oh, wow, we could have a farm and a bunch of kids,’” he shared with her.
For her part, Paige still seemed to be on the fence about the situation, especially as it pertained to having kids. “I definitely feel a little pressure. I’m only 31,” she shared. “Sometimes I’m not gonna lie, sometimes you make me feel like I’m 75,” she added, starting to get upset.
That said, Paige also admitted in the episode that she could fall into the same train of thought as Craig from time to time, fantasizing about a potential way that their life together could go. “I love making up fake scenarios in my head. I just have a little more of a realistic bone in my body than you do,” she pointed out. It seems that this may have been the writing on the wall, for in the end it was Paige who decided to pull the plug on their relationship.
Since then, Paige has been the butt of several rumors about her relationships, including one with a prominent SNL cast member, which she’s since dispelled as nothing more than fiction. She continues to host her podcast with her former cast member and good friend, Hannah Berner, where in multiple episodes she’s spoken about her breakup and everything she’s learned from it. It seems that in her newly single era, her priority is looking out for herself.
