Many celebrities get their start in a band or group. Actors Maya Rudolph, Fred Armisen, and Creed Bratton all began their entertainment careers in bands. Artists P!nk, Missy Elliott, Omarion, and Sisqó were all members of a group prior to launching their solo careers. Even after starting their solo careers, some musicians choose to reunite with their original group for reunion tours and albums. The Jonas Brothers and Big Time Rush are just two examples of this trend.

Some artists choose to go the “music collective” route. Brockhampton is one example of a super successful collective that formed in 2010. Unlike a band, music collectives tend to be more flexible, and members may collaborate in different configurations rather than always with the entire group. Odd Future was a music collective that formed in 2007. Many of the former members have now gone on to have successful careers in entertainment, including Tyler, The Creator; Syd; and Travis Bennett. 9 Tyler, The Creator

Tyler, the Creator has continued to have a successful music career since Odd Future. Since 2011, he has released six studio albums, including his most recent one CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST in 2021. He won the Grammy for Best Rap Album the next year. In 2022, he also released the popular single Cash In Cash Out with Pharrell and 21 Savage. Additionally, his friendships and beefs have made headlines. He is good friends with a few celebrities, including A$AP Rocky and Kendall Jenner. Tyler has also been involved in his fair share of controversies with musicians, including DJ Khaled and Eminem.

8 Casey Veggies

Like Tyler, Casey Veggies has also continued to release music. Since 2009, he has released twelve albums. His most recent album was titled Crypto Veggies, and it features collaborations with Yun-A, N. No, Natalia Shanelle, KAIDONTRAP, Grand Manner, and Freddy Solitary. He is also active on his Instagram and Twitter accounts to promote his music.

7 Syd

Sydney Bennett, AKA “Syd Tha Kyd” or just “Syd,” left behind Odd Future in 2011 to form The Internet with Matt Martians, Tay Walker, Patrick Paige II, and Christopher Smith. Jameel Bruner and Steve Lacy joined later. After releasing four albums, in 2022, Syd announced that their fifth album will be their final one with Columbia Records. Aside from The Internet, Syd has also released her own music, including her second solo album Broken Hearts Club in April 2022. She has also been featured on several soundtracks and appeared in Drake’s video for “Nice for What.”

6 Travis “Taco” Bennett

Travis “Taco” Bennett is currently experiencing a career high. He plays Eddie Murphy’s onscreen son Omar in Kenya Barris’ Netflix comedy You People, which also stars Lauren London, Jonah Hill, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Nia Long. He also stars as Elz in rapper Lil Dicky’s FXX comedy series Dave. He is still friends with Tyler, The Creator and has starred in a few of his music videos. Tyler even attended the LA premiere of You People. Along with Tyler, he is also good friends with model Kendall Jenner and is often seen hanging out with her all around California.

5 Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean has had a lot of career success since he started releasing music as a solo artist. His singles “Novacane,” “Thinkin Bout You,” “Chanel,” and “Moon River” have all been massively successful, especially on social media platforms like TikTok. He has released two albums: channel ORANGE in 2012 and Blonde in 2016. Frank has also appeared on several albums, including Tyler, The Creator’s Flower Boy, Beyoncé’s self-titled album BEYONCÉ, Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, and Jay-Z’s 4:44.

Frank Ocean’s personal life has made headlines over the years. Ahead of the release of his first solo album in 2012, Frank published a statement to his Tumblr in which revealed that he is attracted to men. His statement was met with supportive reactions from celebrities, such as Tyler, The Creator and Russell Simmons. Later this year, he will headline the 22nd Coachella festival after his 2020 performance was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

4 Earl Sweatshirt

Earl Sweatshirt has released several albums since rising to fame as a member of Odd Future. His most recent album, SICK!, features collaborations with Zelooperz and Armand Hammer. He has also welcomed a son and started practicing Nichiren Buddhism again after stopping as a teenager. Though he has been known to rap about dark and controversial topics, the content in his songs has become tamer as he has gotten older. In 2020, fans were also excited when he and his former groupmate Tyler, The Creator posted pictures on Instagram together, proving that their friendship has endured over the years.

3 Ace Hashimoto (AKA Brandun DeShay)

Brandun DeShay, who now goes by Ace Hashimoto, has released lots of music after allegedly being kicked out of Odd Future. He released a few solo albums while still in Odd Future, beginning with Volume: One! For The Money in 2008. His last album under the name brandUn DeShay, randUm Beats Vol. 2, was released in 2019. Under his new stage name Ace Hashimoto, he has already released an album titled Play.Make.Believe. in 2021. In July 2022, Tyler, The Creator accused him and another former Odd Future member Tyler Major of selling his unreleased music without his permission. Brandun has denied the allegations.

2 Pyramid Vritra

Like his former collaborators, Hal Donell Williams Jr., AKA Pyramid Vritra or just Vritra, has continued releasing his own music following Odd Future. He released his most recent album, SNAKESS, in November 2022. He also partners with producer Wilma Archer to form the pair, Wilma Vritra. The talented duo released their second and most recent album, Grotto, in May 2022.

1 Domo Genesis

Domo Genesis released his first solo album in 2016 with features from Wiz Khalifa; Tyler, The Creator; Juicy J; Anderson .Paak; and the late Mac Miller. Most recently, the California native released his album Intros, Outros & Interludes in July 2022. On this album, he collaborated with Navy Blue, Remy Banks, Evidence, and Boldy James.
