After the sudden passing of Lisa Marie Presley, a lot of fans gathered to pay tribute in Graceland — the famous home and burial site of her dad, Elvis Presley in Memphis, Tennessee.

What Was Lisa Marie Presley’s Cause of Death?
Lisa had just attended the Golden Globes, two days before she died in her residence near Calabasas, California on January 12, 2023. According to reports, she had a heart attack — collapsing after suffering from breathing problems.
She was already unresponsive when a housekeeper found her in her bedroom. When her ex-husband, Danny Keough got to her residence shortly after dropping the kids off at school, he tried to revive her through CPR until paramedics arrived.
The emergency officials responded at 10:37 AM, according to L.A. County Fire Department Capt. Sheila Kelliher. The 54-year-old singer was reportedly taken to West Hills Hospital and was in an induced coma in the ICU.
Despite the cardiac arrest reports, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner stated the cause of Lisa Marie’s death as “undetermined.” They’re still doing further testing and doctors are set to reevaluate the case. No timeline has been set for the investigation.
Lisa had been suffering from back pain since 2012, causing her to cancel multiple tours. She also struggled with opioid addiction after a doctor gave her a prescription for pain. During the 2023 Golden Globes, she seemed shaky and was seen holding onto her friend, Jerry Schilling. She also struggled to walk down the stairs.
The Presleys have a history of heart issues. Both Elvis and his dad died from heart attacks. “Preliminary autopsy findings” concluded that the King of Rock and Roll died of “cardiac arrhythmia,” according to Dr. Jerry Francisco, the Shelby County coroner.

The songwriter had two children from her first husband Danny Keough: Riley and Benjamin, who committed suicide at age 27 in July 2020.

In 1994, three weeks after her divorce from Danny was finalized, Lisa married Michael Jackson. They divorced two years later due to different views on starting a family.
In 2002, Lisa married Nicolas Cage. They were only together for two years. “I’ve been through a lot of stuff,” she reflected on their short-lived marriage during a 2003 interview with Diane Sawyer. “We honestly were joking, thinking we are like the new millennium version of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor at this point. I mean, we are going to knock each other off.”
In 2006, Lisa married Michael Lockwood — the father of her twins. They got divorced in 2021. Since then, Michael has been on the prowl for child support payments. But recently, the guitarist opened up about grieving his ex’s death. “We are all reeling from the sudden passing of Lisa Marie Presley, the mother of my two beautiful twin daughters Harper and Finley,” he told People, a week after Lisa’s passing.
“Nothing prepares us for such an unexpected tragedy. It is incomprehensible,” he added. “The most important thing to me at this time is to take care of my daughters, making sure they always feel safe and loved.”
Priscilla Presley Is Contesting Lisa Marie Presley’s Will
Two weeks after Lisa’s passing, her mother Priscilla filed court documents in the Los Angeles Superior Court, contesting her daughter’s will. She said a previously added 2016 amendment had an “invalid” signature.
According to Us Weekly, the filing alleged that Elvis’ ex-wife and Lisa’s former business manager Barry Siegel were initially named as co-trustees before a late revision removed their names in favor of the late singer’s children, Riley and Benjamin.
That leaves the Zola actress as the sole trustee of her mother’s $16 million estate. However, Priscilla claims that this part of the document has issues regarding the “authenticity and validity” of Lisa’s signature. The 77-year-old businesswoman believes it was forged – an “invalid modification” that didn’t match her daughter’s usual penmanship style. Riley hasn’t addressed the legal drama as of this writing.
Priscilla was the first to confirm the news of Lisa’s death. “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” she said in a statement. “She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
When Elvis died, Priscilla inherited $10 million from his estate. She was named a beneficiary in his will, even after their divorce in 1973. But after paying taxes and other expenses, she received a little less than $1 million while Lisa was left with about $4 million.
Nowadays, the former chairwoman of Elvis Presley Enterprises has a current net worth of $50 million — thanks to the continuous growth of Elvis’ estate.
