Love Is Blind UK is back for a new season, and the pods are officially open. The sophomore season of the reality TV show is already off to a dramatic start, with a few engagements under its belt—as well as some breakups.

This season, there is one male cast member who is catching fans’ eyes, though not necessarily in a good way. Hopeful single Patrick Justus has confused some Netflix viewers by noting that he listens to his spleen when making life decisions.

Patrick Claims He’s Guided By His Spleen

In his early pod dates, Patrick, who is a “Human Design Coach” from London, explains that, instead of going with his gut, he listens to his spleen instead. He elaborated on how it guided virtually all of his decision-making:

Throughout his pod dates, Patrick continues to talk about his “splenic awareness” and how important it is to him. When he hits it off with one of the female cast members, Aanu, on a particularly good date, he tells the cameras that he’d had “a splenic intuitive hit.” Another time, when a date was less successful, and he sensed a lack of connection, he noted sullenly that his spleen was “silent.”

Doctors Don’t Back Patrick’s Spleen Science

While some of his dates thought Patrick might’ve been referring to his general intuition, he doubled down by saying that he really could feel things in his spleen. Now that his words have gained some notoriety on the internet, actual medical professionals have weighed in on his take. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it seems that Patrick’s belief in “splenic awareness” isn’t supported by true medical research.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Dr. Alexa Duff, a licensed clinical psychologist, noted that Patrick’s claims of feeling things in his spleen is not, in fact, backed by actual science. Dr. Duff went on to elaborate on that what Patrick was experiencing was, essentially, the same thing as a gut feeling:

In the most recent episode of the show, Patrick’s main connection, Aanu, had taken the time to write him a personalized song, which she planned on performing for him during their next pod date. Once their date had rolled around, however, it seemed like Patrick (and his spleen) had already made up their minds, and he broke off their connection before she had the chance to sing for him.

Only time will tell whether the pair will go on to reconnect in real life down the line. For now, however, Patrick seems to believe that his body is telling him that Aanu isn’t the one for him. Currently, the first four episodes of the season are available to stream on Netflix, and additional episodes will continue to be released on Wednesdays.
