Over the last several years, there have been several new reality shows that have gotten fans talking. After all, it seems seemed like fans have been very excited to talk about shows like The Traitors and Deal or No Deal Island. On top of that, there is always a lot of interest in reality show spin-offs like The Real Housewives of London. Unfortunately for other new reality shows, however, it can be hard for them to stand out since there are so many great shows in the genre.
In May 2025, the new NBC reality show Destination X premiered on television. Based on aspects of that first episode and the show’s potential, it now seems entirely possible that Destination X might stand out in a major way and become the reality show of the summer.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Hosting Destination X Is Key To The Show’s Success
Since the mid-2000s, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been an extremely successful actor who has been developing a large fan following. Best known for his roles in shows like Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, The Walking Dead, The Boys, and The Walking Dead: Dead City, fans have loved Jeffrey on all those series. If that wasn’t enough, Jeffrey has also starred in movies like P.S. I Love You, Watchmen, The Losers, and Rampage, among others.
As a result of all those roles and others, Jeffrey’s fans have grown to really like watching him. Since Jeffrey has been a major star for years as of this point, that has also given fans the opportunity to see what is now making him such a great reality show host. As a result of those qualities, Jeffrey is a key reason why Destination X could become the reality show of the summer.
Since Jeffrey has starred in so many great movies and shows, he has spent the last several years being interviewed about all of those projects. Between those interviews and his acting roles, it has long been clear that Jeffrey has a part of his personality that makes him a wonderful Destination X host.

During Jeffrey’s interviews, he comes across like he is a really great guy. However, those same interviews and the roles Jeffrey has played also show that the actor has a devilish sense of humor. Those two attributes are the main reasons Jeffrey is such a great Destination X host.
In May 2025, Josh Martinez was interviewed by TheThings about Destination X. During that interview, Josh explained that being driven in a bus for long hours without being able to see the world around him felt like torture.
Before competing as a part of Destination X’s cast, Josh Martinez had already won Big Brother, and he competed on The Challenge. Despite Josh’s past reality show success, he was the first person to be eliminated during Destination X’s first season.
During the first episode of Destination X, Jeffrey was shown seeming to be amused by how arduous competing on the show is. While talking exclusively to TheThings, Josh was asked if it seemed like Jeffrey enjoyed seeing Destination X’s competitors suffer. In response, Josh described how delighted he thought Jeffrey was by Destination X’s competitors being uncomfortable.
“[Jeffrey] was living for it… He was getting a thrill from torturing us, and I think that he loved it.”
However, during that same TheThings interview, Josh also spoke about how likable Jeffrey is even as he delights in your torture. “I’m like, ‘Dude, this guy’s such an awesome dude. He’s such a good guy. Generally, he’s such a good guy, man.”
While watching the first episode of Destination X, both the great guy and the host with a devilish sense of humor regularly came out of Jeffrey. For example, when one competitor dropped something pivotal to the game and another picked it up and kept it, Jeffrey was delighted. However, at the same time, Jeffrey spoke to the players with a great deal of warmth.
In May 2025, NBC’s official website published an interview with Jeffrey Dean Morgan about Destination X. During that conversation, Jeffrey made it very clear he knew how hard Destination X is on competitors when he explained why he would never compete on the reality show. “You see Josh for instance, who was a Big Brother champion and in two days he’s already going insane,” Morgan furthered. “I look at him and I’m like this guy comes from this world and Big Brother is similar in a lot of ways. You can’t go anywhere, but at least you could go into like a bedroom or a something to get away from people. There — on the bus, there’s nowhere to f****** go. Like you’re there, there’s nothing to look at. We got the windows blacked out, so you have to look at the person sitting across from you for 24 hours a day. There’s no way.”
Later during the first episode, Jeffrey spoke to Josh Martinez after he was eliminated from the game. During that discussion, Jeffrey laughed as Josh screamed aloud, calling himself an idiot. Jeffrey then poetically described a former reality show winner being eliminated in Rome.
“Reality gladiator cut down in his prime at the coliseum.”
Finally, the nice side of Jeffrey came out when Josh asked if they could go for a drink and Jeffrey’s reaction showed how kind he is at heart. “Yeah. For sure. On me.” The fact that Jeffrey can be so cutting and then so kind shows why he will be a captivating Destination X host.
More Reality Show Veterans Are Coming To Destination X
During the first episode of Destination X, fans got to see the former Big Brother winner and The Challenge competitor Josh Martinez compete. In a sign of how daunting Destination X is for competitors, Josh was the first person to be eliminated. Fortunately, it turns out that Destination X is going to be rocked by the introduction of two more reality show veterans.
During the first episode of Destination X, it ends with a reality show staple, a preview of the incredible events that will come during the remainder of the season.
Easily the most notable part of that preview came when the current competitors were shocked to learn that two reality show veterans were joining the game.
As footage of that stunning moment shows, JaNa Craig will be competing during the first season of Destination X. For those that don’t know, JaNa came in third place during the 6th season of Love Island USA.
Alongside JaNa, Peter Weber walked on the Destination X bus at the same time. First introduced to fans when he came in third during The Bachelorette’s 15th season, Peter went on to be the focus of The Bachelor’s 24th season. After that, Peter went on to compete during the second season of The Traitors. While Peter didn’t win The Traitors, he notably was the most strategic member of the Faithfuls during that season as he came up with ways to trick the Traitors into exposing themselves.
Destination X Can Now Focus More On The Players And The Game
For the team behind any reality show, the first episode is extremely difficult to craft. There is a very basic reason for that: the first episode of a new reality show has to accomplish a staggering amount.
The first episode of Destination X had to start with a basic introduction of the show’s concept. Viewers had to be told what the rules of the game are and about the practical aspects of the show. Arguably most importantly of all, the first episode also had to show how Destination X competitors are eliminated from the competition.
If that wasn’t hard enough, the first episode of Destination X also has to introduce viewers to the show’s cast. For example, even though Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a world-famous actor, the show had to reveal what kind of reality show host he is. From there, the episode needed to give viewers a taste of what the competitors are like. That process was so hard that it took three minutes into the episode for Josh Martinez to reveal he is a former Big Brother winner.
Now that all of those concepts and people have been introduced to viewers, the rest of Destination X’s episodes can focus on a much simpler task. All that the rest of the season’s episodes have to accomplish is entertaining fans.
Given how entertaining the show’s first episode is, it is exciting to anticipate how great the rest of the season will be since that is now the show’s only task.
