Season 2 of the Netflix show With Love, Meghan will be headed to screens very shortly. A new trailer for the reality TV show, which stars Dutchess Meghan Markle, was just released this past week, giving viewers a look into who some of the guests will be in the sophomore season.
So far, there have been mixed reviews about Season 2, as well as questions about the choices of guests. While some continue to criticize the show as unnecessary and out of touch, others are wondering if those behind the show weren’t able to book as big of stars as Season 1.
The Guest List For Season 2 Looks Quite DifferentViewers of Season 1 will recall that there were some major A-listers who appeared in the episodes, among them Oprah and Mindy Kaling. While there was apparent star power in the first season, the trailer shows the audience that there’s a more lowkey kind of guest featured in Season 2.
That is, instead of actors and other celebrities, less famous faces are featured in Season 2. Among those included are people from Meghan’s own life, such as her makeup artist Daniel Martin, and her personal Pilates instructor Heather Dorak. Beyond that, other guests include a lineup of successful chefs, like José Andrés, David Chang, and Samin Nosrat—all of whom, it should be noted, have worked with Netflix before.
The comments about the guest lineup have been far from kind. Some viewers speculated that, after the criticism of Season 1 for being tone-deaf, other famous guests wanted to steer clear of Season 2. One commenter even guessed that those who appear this season had to be “bribed” to do so:
No one that had any sense of self worth wanted to be in the vicinity of Meghan Markle. That’s why those already with Netflix had to be bribed to appear on her show.
Just like in Season 1, the comments ahead of Season 2 have been similarly harsh in nature. The general sentiment seems to be that viewers don’t understand why Netflix picked up the show for a second season, as it seems as though nobody was asking for more episodes. Others called out Meghan for continuing to seem out of touch, and, at times, even condescending towards her guests. (One need only recall the way she called out Mindy Kaling in Season 1 for using her incorrect royal title.)
“It’s the second season nobody asked for for the show nobody in the first place asked for!!!” wrote one commenter. Another called Meghan out for being insincere. “You don’t need to keep saying you care for other people, just like you don’t need to keep saying you’re authentic — you either are or you’re not!” they wrote.
One of the biggest issues that viewers have also been airing is the choice to feature model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen as a guest. Chrissy was under fire a few years ago for cyberbullying on social media, including one instance where she encouraged a minor to “take a dirt nap,” implying the girl’s death.
Angry comments could be found below the trailer voicing their disapproval:
Hey, Meghan, Chrissy’s way of “showing up lovingly” was telling a vulnerable girl on the internet to take “a dirt nap” and disturbing tweets about children. You know what they say, you are the company you keep.
“Netflix should cancel the episode with Chrissy Teigen as she is the ultimate cyber bully. Netflix is now promoting a cyber bully,” another user urged. Some were just grateful to be able to read the snarky comments. “Netflix, the only entertainment we’re getting out of this show is the comment section, so thank you for leaving it open,” joked one post.
Season 2 of With Love, Meghan will stream on Netflix on August 26th.
