JoJo Siwa is in her healing era thanks to boyfriend Chris Hughes.
The “Karma” singer, 22, shared an emotional TikTok video on Thursday, July 24, filming herself bursting into tears after Hughes, 32, complimented her hairline. The Dance Moms alum revealed that her hair has always been a point of insecurity for her.
“I’m drying my hair right now and he goes, ‘You have a really good hairline,’” Siwa shared through tears as Hughes appeared behind her.
“You do have a good hairline. It’s really nice. I don’t get why it’s made you laugh,” the Love Island U.K. alum comforted her.
“No, it’s making me cry,” Siwa explained. “That was the No. 1 thing I was bullied for as a kid. That’s made me destroy myself over the years. And you just said it out of literal nowhere. It was just really nice.”
Hughes then dabbed the tears from Siwa’s eyes with a tissue and continued to express his love. “I love your hair,” he said. “You’ve got really good hair.”
In the video’s caption, Siwa shared how online memes about her hairline have affected her confidence in the past. The singer and dancer has previously opened up about losing her hair due to a stress rash from her time on Dance Moms.
“He had no idea of the 2017-2020 hairline memes that I’m not affected by on the daily anymore, but him saying this out of thin air literally finished healing a part of me,” she wrote. “It’s almost like I had a band aid over it for the last 8 years and just [was] leaving it there scared to look under it to see if it’s healed and he removed it being like why do u have this on before I could even explain what it was.”
“Lucky lucky girl I am. Don’t even think I realize how lucky sometimes🤍🥺✨,” the star added.
Siwa talked about her hair loss during an episode of Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test in November 2023.
“Everything gets judged,” she said, pointing at her head. “You know, people told me I have a receding hairline … they don’t know that I have a stress rash and that’s why I’m balding right here. A 12-year-old shouldn’t have a stress rash on their head that makes them bald, but I did.”
Siwa and Hughes met in April while contestants on the U.K. edition of Celebrity Big Brother. After becoming close friends in the Big Brother House, the pair’s relationship blossomed into romance after they exited the show.
The couple have been going from strength to strength since confirming their relationship in June. Earlier this week, Hughes exclusively told Us Weekly that they have even discussed marriage and children.
“We genuinely speak to each other about this,” Hughes, 32, told Us in an interview published on Wednesday, July 23. “When you are absolutely besotted with each other and you are in love with someone, I think it’s fun to look forward to those things.”
“Of course I want to get married. I would never shy away from saying that,” he added. “I want to marry and one day I want to have children. We both come from extremely loving families and very wholesome families who care… So it would be nice to reciprocate that going forward.”
