While Chip and Joanna Gaines’s net worth makes them a total real estate power couple, Tarek is just as famous, and he stars on HGTV’s The Flipping El Moussas with his wife Heather. The show seemed like a natural fit given Tarek and ex Christina Haack’s Flip Or Flop series and Heather’s real estate know-how, not to mention her Selling Sunset fame. Since the married couple are reality TV pros, and definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to making homes look fantastic, it seemed like their show would be a hit.
Instead, fans just aren’t loving The Flipping El Moussas, and they have been super critical of everything from the home decor choices Heather made to the general premise of the series.
What Do Fans Think About The Flipping El Moussas?
Ever since Heather and Tarek El Moussa began dating in 2019, they have seemed totally in love, and they both enjoy posting tons of photos of the two of them together on social media. They’re always gushing about their feelings and Selling Sunset fans in particular have heard a lot about how happy Heather has been since meeting her now husband. They got married in 2021 and Heather gave birth to their baby boy Tristan in early 2023.
When The Flipping El Moussas premiered in early 2023, it seemed like the many fans of Flip Or Flop and Selling Sunset would be thrilled to have a new home renovation and decor show to watch, but not everyone is loving it. Fans talked about The Flipping El Moussas on Reddit and many agreed that the show seems to focus on Tarek and Heather’s love for one another instead of how they want to renovate and decorate the houses that they’re working on.
One fan wrote on Reddit, “It didn’t even really focus on the design of the house or anything. I wasn’t impressed. Currently rewatching flip or flop and it’s definitely better. Even post divorce.”
Another added, “Yeah I missed the design aspect in the show. It felt more focused on their personal life and relationship.”
While Tarek finds the houses that the couple is going to flip and then Heather plans the design, furniture, and decor, some fans aren’t pleased with the choices that they make. One fan wrote on Reddit that they didn’t love with what they saw in the first episode: “The design was not impressive at all and the bathrooms were tiny!! Design wise, it looked like a 700k house they’ve designed on flip or flop not a 3 million dollar house. Heather set up such high expectations for it.”
A fan commented that as of February 2023, no one had bought the home. The house was listed for $2,695 and the Zillow listing showed that they dropped the price quite a bit. The house is done up in neutrals like gray, white, black, and beige and looks great, and as Heather and Tarek said on the show, the view is what prospective buyers will likely be impressed by.
According To The Sun, The Flipping El Moussas’s ratings haven’t been awesome. The first episode was watched by 796,000 people compared to the first episode of season 10 of Flip Or Flop which was watched by 1,108,000 people.
It’s surprising to see fans not connecting with this show since so many people loved watching Flip Or Flop. Tarek and Christina’s marriage was definitely a selling point, as it was fun to see a couple working together. Since Flip Or Flop was on HGTV for 10 seasons from 2013 to 2022, the show’s longevity alone suggests that it will always be more popular than The Flipping El Moussas.
What Do Fans Think About Heather El Moussa?
The main problem that Flip Or Flop fans have with The Flipping El Moussas is that they aren’t sure about Heather as the co-host. One fan wrote on Reddit, “I was a Flip or Flop fan from the very beginning & have watched every episode at least a few times, so I was looking forward to checking this out. Fifteen minutes in I was on Reddit to see if others were thinking what I was thinking… Yeah, I don’t think I’ll be able to continue with the show due to Heather…”

The majority of Reddit comments are about how Heather and Tarek’s love story shouldn’t be front and center. One fan wrote “There is way too much about their personal life in the show.”
Many people feel that Heather is more fun to watch on the reality series that she is known for. One fan wrote on Reddit “I like Heather. Her personality shines more on Selling Sunset. She may be nervous and looking for guidance from Tarek on the flipping show.”
It’s fun to watch Selling Sunset for the drama, of course, but fans also felt that they were able to get to know Heather. Even though she showcases her happy personality on both shows, her time on Selling Sunset is more popular.
What Have Heather And Tarek El Moussa Said About The Flipping El Moussas?
Even though fans didn’t love the HGTV series, the show does paint a somewhat honest, realistic picture of the Los Angeles real estate market. Viewers saw that by the time the couple was done with their flip in the first episode, the market had already gone through some changes.
When sharing the news of the show’s premiere on February 27th, 2023, Tarek posted a photo of him and Heather on his Instagram account and wrote in the caption, I’ll be VERY real with you guys: with bigger homes and bigger budgets comes a lot more stress!! I’m a guy who cares about the design of a home but I’m also conscious about costs and budget (which you know if you’ve been watching me for the last decade) and @theheatherraeelmoussa’s background is in luxury real estate so you could say it’s a fun mix.”
Tarek noted “Add in the current state of the real estate market and we’ve got a bit of chaos.”
Tarek spoke about The Flipping El Moussas standing apart from Flip Or Flop and mentioned that his new show allows people to see the true reality of flipping homes and trying to make a profit.
In an interview with Insider, he said, “The houses that we bought that we filmed for season one, when we bought them, the interest rates were under 3%. When we went to sell them, they were 6 to 7%. The market changed in the middle of our very first season, so it’s a very different show than what I’ve done in the past. It shows what’s happening with the market, and it’s not always a happy ending.”
While fans might not think that The Flipping El Moussas is a lot of fun to watch, it does seem that Tarek and Heather enjoyed filming it and they liked being able to spend more time together.
