It’s been two years since Jonathan Scott proposed to Zooey Deschanel, though they have yet to figure out their wedding plans.
“We’ve just been having so much fun traveling with the kids and filming this show and stuff,” Scott, 47, told People in an interview published on Thursday, August 7, referring to Deschanel’s kids from a previous relationship and his HGTV series with twin Drew Scott. “So no, we have not actually made any plans yet, which, it’s been two years now since I proposed.”
The Property Brothers star started dating Deschanel, 45, in 2019 after meeting on the set of Carpool Karaoke. Jonathan proposed in August 2023.
While speaking to People, Jonathan revealed that he had one condition for his wedding to the New Girl alum.
“Whatever we do, it has to be meaningful to us, and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time,” he said. “We want to keep it very, very intimate.”
Jonathan previously told Us Weekly that their nuptials would be capped off with a blowout bash.
“The ceremony and the pomp and circumstance, we’ll get that out of the way, and then it’s the reception,” he told Us exclusively in June 2024. “It’s going to be a blast.”
After Jonathan and Deschanel finally say “I do,” he doesn’t believe much will change about their dynamic.
“I already play that role,” Jonathan told Us. “I mean, we’ve both been married before, but even when we were younger, you’re looking for different things, and who knows what we were looking for at that time?”
Jonathan was previously married to Kelsy Ully from 2007 to 2013, while Deschanel was married to Jacob Pechenik, with whom she shares two children, from 2015 to 2020. She was also previously married to Ben Gibbard from 2009 to 2012.
“When we met, it was amazing because we both had been through unsuccessful relationships,” Jonathan said at the time. “You learn what you do not want, and you also think of the things that you do want — and the synergy was incredible. Instantly, we hit it off. Still to this day, we have these nerdy, cute moments where we’re just like, ‘Wow, how did it take so long for this to happen?’”
Jonathan has also found his footing as a stepparent to Deschanel’s children: Elsie, 9 and Charlie, 7.
“I want to make sure that they have these amazing memories,” Jonathan told Us in November 2024. “Whether it’s a birthday or Halloween or whatever, do we go a little overboard on the parties? I don’t think so. Zooey and I love hosting, so we put on these epic [parties]. We had a Taylor Swift party for one. I remember last year there was a Christmas in July party. Whatever it happens to be, we love entertaining.”
