Over the last several years, NBC has become a viewing destination for fans of the One Chicago TV show franchise. Since so many fans love Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire, many people worried when budget cuts were announced for the franchise. Since then, some stars from both of those shows have been fired, which has given Chicago Med fans reason to worry too. After all, even though Chicago Med’s 10th season introduced new characters and brought back actors from the past, the same thing could happen to that show.
One of the reasons why Chicago Med’s 10th season was the best in many years is because some episodes perfectly focused on characters. WIth that and the budget cuts in mind, Chicago Med’s producers and NBC’s bosses need to remember that some characters are too beloved to be cut.
Which One Chicago Stars Have Already Left Their Shows In 2025?
Since 2012, the One Chicago TV franchise has been a major part of NBC’s programming schedule. First introduced with the premiere of Chicago Fire, four different shows have existed within the franchise since 2012.
In 2014, the first spin-off premiered when Chicago P.D.’s pilot aired. After that, Chicago Med’s pilot premiered in the year 2015. Finally, the short-lived spin-off, Chicago Justice, aired a handful of episodes in 2017.
Over the years, the three remaining One Chicago shows have aired a slew of crossover events. Since the franchise remains so closely connected, it is remarkable to look at which One Chicago franchise stars have left their shows already in 2025.
In June 2025, Cinema Blend published an article that revealed that a Chicago P.D. star had been cut from the show’s cast.

That article revealed that Toya Turner would not be returning to Chicago P.D. following the show’s 12th season finale. Unfortunately for Toya, that meant that her Chicago P.D. tenure didn’t last long. The most recently added cast member, Toya joined the cast of Chicago P.D. at the beginning of the show’s 12th season.
In April 2025, Deadline published an article that revealed that two Chicago Fire stars had also been fired at the time. After Season 13 of the show ended, Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett both left Chicago Fire. That article indicated that Jake and Daniel’s exits were likely linked to the budget cuts that the One Chicago franchise had to cope with.
In April 2024, CBR published an article about the best Chicago Fire characters. That article stated that Daniel Kyri’s character, Darren Ritter, was one of the show’s highlights thanks to his enthusiasm and youthful approach to the job of a firefighter.
After having a recurring role during Season 11 and Season 12 of Chicago Fire, Jake was promoted to a starring role for Season 13. Daniel leaving Chicago Fire was more remarkable since he had a recurring role during Season 7 and Season 8 before taking on a starring role at the start of Season 9.
After One Chicago fans learned about Toya, Daniel, and Jake’s exits, that begged an obvious question.
Since Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire stars left their respective series, was the cast of Chicago Med the next to go through cuts?
Which Chicago Med Stars Are Far Too Important To Be Fired?
After Chicago Med Season 10 was so great, it would be wonderful if the show’s cast could remain intact when it returns. However, given the Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire stars who were recently fired, that seems unlikely. With that in mind, it is worth looking at which Chicago Med stars are too important for the show to cut.
From the start, it makes sense to acknowledge that it would be devastating if any of Chicago Med’s three main stars were fired.

The only three stars who have been there since the show premiered, S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt, and Marlyne Barrett are the heart and soul of Chicago Med’s cast.
Known for portraying Sharon Goodwin, Dr. Daniel Charles, and Maggie Lockwood respectively, it would be outrageous if Marlyne, Oliver, or S. Epatha were fired.
In fact, Sharon, Daniel, and Maggie are such integral parts of what makes Chicago Med great that it is hard to imagine the show without all of them.
After the finale of Chicago Med ended on a cliffhanger, that makes it seem important that at least two of the three characters involved have to stick around. During Chicago Med’s Season 10 finale, fans learned that Dr. Hannah Asher was pregnant, and it seemed clear that Dr. Dean Archer or Dr. Mitchell Ripley is the father.
Since fans love her character and she is at the center of the storyline, it is imperative that Jessy Schram continues to portray Dr. Asher in Chicago Med. Similarly, the father of the baby, either Steven Weber’s Dr. Archer or Luke Mitchell’s Dr. Ripley, also need to stay on the show.
That said, it seems like Chicago Med could write out Dr. Ripley as a character if Dr. Archer turns out to be the father. Given his past with Dr. Asher, it would make sense for Dr. Ripley to leave the hospital after learning Dr. Asher and Dr. Archer were having a baby together. Since Luke is a great actor, it would be very unfortunate to see him go, but that would make sense from a storyline angle.
That remains two more members of Chicago Med’s cast that could conceivably be shown the door, Sarah Ramos and Darren Barnet. Again, it would be a shame to see either of those actors go after their introductions during Season 10 of Chicago Med were handled so well. On top of that, firing Sarah after her recent stint on The Bear made her more popular wouldn’t seem to make sense.
All things considered, however, there would be some logic to Darren or Sarah exiting. As this article already outlined, Toya Turner was the most recently added star of Chicago P.D. before she was fired from that show. With that in mind, it would seem fair on some level for one of Chicago Med’s two most recently added stars to also be fired.
