You Won't Believe Why Beverly Ortega Abruptly Left The Bachelor Before Her One-On-One Date With Grant Ellis

The Bachelor Season 29’s lead, Grant Ellis, probably didn’t expect to be ghosted by one of his contestants. In Week 3 of the reality TV dating series, Grant learned that his one-on-one date with Beverly Ortega wouldn’t happen after the Howard Beach, New York native got “very sick” and abruptly left the show.

Without a proper goodbye to Grant or to the remaining women, and with the show giving no update on what happened to Beverly, fans wondered if the insurance salesperson was okay. Thankfully, she was able to address her shocking departure in an interview. Unfortunately, Beverly left The Bachelor mansion thinking “what if?” She certainly seemed like a top contender for Grant’s heart.

Fans were shocked when The Bachelor Season 29 contestant Beverly Ortega dropped out of the race to win Grant Ellis’ heart. It marked the season’s first self-elimination. Beverly, a 30-year-old insurance salesperson, appeared to be the front-runner and Week 3 saw her getting a coveted one-on-one date with the day trader. In the episode, when Beverly learned she’d be getting some much-needed alone time with Grant, she shared:

“Carolina and I are not on the group date, so we are going to be spending some special one-on-one time with Grant,” she said. “There is a group date today with 12 girls, and I couldn’t be happier to not be on it.”

However, Beverly never made it to her date. In fact, she didn’t even say goodbye to Grant when she left. The women explained that Beverly got “very sick” and had to remove herself.

Before she made her debut on Season 29, Beverly’s Bachelor bio read: “She comes from a close-knit, loving family, and her parents’ 30-plus-year marriage has been the blueprint for the kind of love she wants for herself. Beverly is ready for a man that will truly love her. She’s looking for a partner who is trustworthy, kind and understanding. When she’s not working, Beverly likes to go shopping or watch her favorite movies like Titanic and The Princess Diaries.”

In an interview with Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Beverly shared what led to her eliminating herself from the competition—and it was for good reason. Detailing the events before her one-one-one date, she said:

“I honestly was so excited, because I’m like, ‘We’re gonna have the whole day to ourselves. I’m gonna get to eat, sleep, just relax, no drama.’ And I take a nap, and I wake up, and my stomach’s hurting,'” she began.

“I’m in excruciating pain, I’m continuing to throw up. It’s a mess. This goes on for 12 hours.”

Beverly was still unsure what was causing her to be in so much pain, and although she admitted on the podcast that her diagnosed anxiety would sometimes cause her to throw up, this wasn’t the case, it was something much more serious. She was then taken to the hospital.

“After three hours of being in the ER, the doctor came in and he’s like, ‘You have appendicitis and you’re going to need emergency surgery.'”

Beverly, who lived in New York City, was worried about having “major surgery on an organ” in California without her family or friends with her. However, it was vital and she ended up being okay. Despite this, Beverly was really bummed to leave the show.

Beverly Ortega Admitted She Took “A Month And A Half To Recover Emotionally” After Needing To Leave The Bachelor

There was no question that Beverly did the right thing in leaving The Bachelor. Her circumstances were certainly warranted, and it’s good to hear that she recovered. But, while speaking on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Beverly admitted that it took her much longer to heal emotionally, as she really felt a strong connection with Grant.

Would Beverly have been a frontrunner? She admitted, “So yeah, I was really, really sad. Honestly, it took me like a month and a half to recover emotionally. Physically, obviously, I was OK. But emotionally, I was not. I left like, ‘What if?'”

Beverly shared that she really wanted to go back on the show and win Grant’s heart, but it “wasn’t safe,” knowing that soon the few women left would be traveling out of the country.

“Everything happens for a reason.”

Beverly continued, “What are the odds that my appendix will act up like days before I get a one-on-one?” The Bachelor contestant saw this as a sign that “Grant is not your person.” But, she was ready to open up to him about her anxiety, expressing:

“I was looking forward to the one-on-one because, again, I deal with anxiety and I was obviously going to open up to Grant about that, which is a really huge part of my life. I wanted to see what his reaction was—if it was something that he was able to handle… It was really sad that we didn’t get that moment,” she said.

Beverly Is Hoping She Gets Another Shot At Love On Bachelor In Paradise

Beverly was upset that she could no longer compete for Grant’s heart. Bachelor Happy Hour podcast host Joe Amabile shared that he believed “Grant clearly” liked Beverly and had a “great personality.” She certainly could have been one of the last women standing, or even be the one getting the remarkable Neil Lane diamond ring in the finale.

“America really didn’t get to see me. Like I’m silly, and funny and goofy,” she shared.

Fun Facts about Beverly:

  • Beverly’s closet is color coordinated.
  • Beverly aspires to visit all seven continents.
  • Beverly’s first concert was the Jonas Brothers.

Beverly told the podcast hosts that she really hopes she can showcase that personality on another reality TV dating show, if given the chance. When asked if she’d want to find love on The Bachelor spinoff Bachelor in Paradise, Beverly said, “1000%”

The former contestant added that she probably wouldn’t have seen herself on BiP if she had made it further in Grant’s season.

“I do want to get married. I’m 30 years old. I’m ready for kids and family. I’ve always been a relationship type of girl, and so that was my intention going on the show,” Beverly expressed.
