After more than three decades together, director Sam Raimi and his wife Gillian Greene are heading in separate directions. Greene filed for divorce in Los Angeles, signaling the end of their 31-year marriage.

Gillian Greene, aged 56, submitted the divorce documents on Wednesday, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for their split, as reported by TMZ following a review of court records. Raimi, known for his work on the Spider-Man films, is 64 years old.

The couple’s journey began with their marriage on September 17, 1993. Over the years, they have built a family together, raising five children: Lorne, Henry, Emma, Dashiell, and Oliver, all of whom are now adults.

In her court filing, Greene requested spousal support while also seeking to prevent Raimi from receiving alimony. The documents reviewed did not mention any prenuptial agreement between the two.

The court papers did not indicate a prenuptial agreement in place, according to the outlet.

The director has a net worth of $60 million, according to the website Celebrity Net Worth.

Greene told the court that she and Raimi would have to delineate and divide their assets and property moving forward.

The outlet noted that the split of the longtime show business couple was ‘pretty stunning,’ and there had been ‘no signs of trouble’ ahead of Wednesday’s news.

The Royal Oak, Michigan-born Raimi has worked for decades in Hollywood as a director, producer and writer.

He’s directed three films in the Spider-Man franchise: 2002’s Spider-Man, 2004’s Spider-Man 2 and 2007’s Spider-Man 3, all with Tobey Maguire in the titular role.

He also boasts prominent credits such as 1981’s The Evil Dead, 1990’s Darkman, 1999’s For Love of the Game, 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful and 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Speaking with CBR last month, the filmmaker spoke about rumors he would be making a fourth Spider-Man with Maguire, 48.

‘Well, I haven’t heard about that yet,’ he told the outlet. ‘I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet.

He added, ‘I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [films], and the track there, and I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me, and say, “Well, folks, we can also tell that story!”‘

Raimi added, ‘I’m not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey again in it.’

Raimi told the outlet that he hasn’t yet been in touch with Maguire about reprising his role as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, but anything is possible moving forward.

‘I haven’t talked to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures,’ Raimi told the outlet. ‘But, I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

‘So, I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don’t know.’
