Why Was Gigi Hadid Arrested?
GIGI Hadid has been released from jail after she was arrested for marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession when flying to the Cayman Islands.
On July 10, after arriving in a private aircraft at the Owen Roberts International Airport in George Town, Grand Cayman, the supermodel was detained.
Customs officers investigated Gigi, 28, upon her arrival, and when they checked her bags using a scanner, they allegedly discovered a “small amount of weed and smoking utensils,” according to TMZ.
According to the publication, the mother of one and a friend were “arrested on charges of importing marijuana and importing utensils to smoke the cannabis.”
However, the CBC later determined the drugs were for personal use only.
At the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center, where she made bail arrangements, Gigi’s arrest was handled.
Two days later, on July 12, the IMG model and her partner showed up in court where she was formally charged.
The couple entered a guilty plea and were given a $1,000 fine, but they were released with no conviction in their histories.
According to E! Online, Gigi was taking a girls’ getaway to the Cayman Islands with her friends.
“Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license,” the star’s rep said to the publication.
Additionally, Grand Cayman has permitted its medical use since 2017. She continued to have a clean record and loved her remaining time on the island.
Just two days after her court hearing, Gigi posted pictures from her trip on social media, showing that the incident had not seemed to get the best of her.
On July 14, the blonde posed in a scant peach paisley bikini to display a large faux dragon tattoo on her right hip.
She also uploaded a photo of herself in a green bikini floating on a noodle float toy while enjoying the turquoise Caribbean ocean on the same day.
