A Michigan man who repeatedly broke into the home of renowned rapper Eminem has been sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison. According to CBS, the individual was found guilty of trespassing on Eminem’s property on two separate occasions over a span of five years.
On June 17, 2025, the Macomb County Circuit Court issued the sentencing for 32-year-old Matthew Hughes. He was convicted of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking related to an incident that occurred in August 2024. Assistant Prosecutor Seven Fox urged the jury—composed of eight men and four women—to deliver a conviction for Hughes’ persistent and threatening behavior.
The events have had a profound psychological impact on Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers, prompting increased isolation. The case has raised broader concerns about celebrity safety and the ongoing threat posed by obsessive individuals.
Following a two-day trial, the jury reached a unanimous verdict in approximately 90 minutes. During closing arguments, Fox stated:
“People long for fame, they want fame, but fame can put you in a bubble. That’s the life that he [Eminem] has to live in. Why? Because of men like Matthew Hughes.”
