Jackson was a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for 18 years. In November 2012, Jackson, a registered Republican, lost his bid to become district attorney for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

In February 2013, Jackson left to pursue a career as a civil litigator with Palmer, Lombardi and Donohue, after Dist. Atty. Jackie Lacey, who beat him in the November runoff, reassigned him from the prestigious major crimes division to a post where he supervised prosecutors handling less high-profile cases.
