David Fergus is an auctioneer and appraiser. He is also an expert on BBC’s Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic with Jules Hudson. He is currently an auctioneer and modern art, decorative & studio glass valuer at Richard Winterton Auctioneers. The Birmingham native previously worked as a photographer in the Royal Air Force for 22 years.

David chose a career in antiques because “I was a collector, and spent a lot of my free time at auctions and antique centres looking for glass.” His advice to anyone wanting to work in the antiques trade is “be prepared to get dirty, because some of the items that come to us are filthy.”

Antique dealer David Fergus is an expert on BBC’s Bargain Hunt, presented by Charlie Ross. He joined the Bargain Hunt team in April 2025. Bargain Hunt’s official X (formerly Twitter) account announced that David and Serhat Ahmet had joined the team as the show’s brand new experts.

The post read: “Please give a huge welcome to our other new expert on #BBCBargainHunt. It’s @1davefergus! You can watch David’s first programme on #BankHoliday Monday 21st April when he guides his blue team in King’s Lynn.”

David expressed his excitement about joining the Bargain Hunt team, saying in the clip: “I’m a glass collecting auctioneer and valuer from Staffordshire. I’m absolutely delighted to have been asked to join the Bargain Hunt team as one of the new experts. I look forward to seeing you all out on the road. Happy hunting!”.

David got involved in Bargain Hunt after “someone on the Bargain Hunt team saw some social media videos I did for work and asked if I wanted to be part of the team. It didn’t take me long to say yes!”

Speaking about the show’s appeal, David told the BBC: “Bargain Hunt has such appeal because we all want to find a bargain and quite often we see items on the show that we have in our homes or remember seeing in a relative’s house. We can feel the contestants’ joy when they get a good result and feel for them when they have a loss.”
