Katie McLaughlin is a professional swimmer who specializes in butterfly and freestyle events.

In fact, Katie has won the United States team a silver medal in the 4*200 Relay at the Tokyo Olympics.

She swam the third leg on the United States’ women’s 4×200 freestyle relay team that surpassed the previous world record in the final at the Tokyo Olympics.

Her performance placed her second in the third leg and won the team a silver medal.

No, Katie McLaughlin and Sydney McLaughlin are not related. Due to the same last name, Katie and Sydney are rumored to be related.

But, in reality, there is no piece of evidence to connect the two.

Both Katie and Sydney are yet to comment on this matter. However, they don’t seem to be related.

Talking about Katie’s family, both of her parents are athletes.  Her mother was a USC sprint freestyle and flyer, and her father was an Indiana State tight end.

Despite the fact that her parents were both exceptional athletes, McLaughlin claims that they never forced her to do anything she didn’t enjoy.

Katie began swimming at a young age, but she also dabbled in basketball, soccer, volleyball, and track. She eventually fell in love with swimming.

In fact, she started competitively swimming at the age of nine and qualified for her first Olympic Trials just five years later. Thanks to her hard work and dedication, she advanced quickly in the sport.

According to Swimming World Magazine, McLaughlin was the seventh-ranked recruit in the class of 2015.

Katie broke the national high school record in the 100-yard fly.

She started her professional career at the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, where she won a bronze medal in the 200m butterfly.

Furthermore, she went on to win a gold medal in the 4*200 m freestyle relay and a silver medal in the 4*100 m mixed medley relay for the United States at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships.

Katie qualified for the Olympic team by finishing fourth in the 200m freestyle in the US Olympic Swimming Trials in 2021.
