Arun Subramanian is a judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He was nominated by Democratic President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. on January 23, 2023, to a seat vacated by Judge Alison Julie Nathan who was elevated to the United States Circuit Court of Appeal for the Second Circuit. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 7, 2023, and received commission on April 13, 2023.

Prior to being a judge, Subramanian was a partner at Susman Godfrey LLP from 2011 – 2023 and an associate from 2007 – 2011.

Subramanian served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, DC from 2006-2007. He told Columbia Law School that his decision to pursue being a judge came just after her death in 2020, as he stood with other former clerks outside the Supreme Court, where Ginsburg lay in repose.

He was also a Law Clerk for the Honorable Gerard E. Lynch in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from 2005 – 2006, as well as the Honorable Dennis Jacobs in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 2004 – 2005.
