Dorcas Oduor is a nominee for the position of Attorney-General of the Republic of Kenya and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. The A.G nominee is currently the Secretary, Public Prosecutions and the Principal Deputy to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

She previously served as the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of Economic, International and Emerging Crimes at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

A career Prosecution Counsel, Mrs. Oduor has previously served in the Public Prosecutions space for over 30 years having begun her career as a State Counsel in 1991. She also worked as the Deputy Chief State Counsel and as a State Counsel for the (department of Public Prosecution) at the then Office of the Attorney General.

Ms Oduor has been a member in various agencies/commissions including as Chairperson of the Board of Review on Mentally Insane ( Criminal Psychiatric), Assisting Counsel Akiwumi Commission on Land Clashes, Assisting Counsel Bosire Commission on the Goldenberg Affair.

She has worked as the Assisting Counsel Kiruki Commission on Artur Brothers, Joint Secretary Police Reform Commission, (Ransley Commission), Chair of the Board on Criminal Psychiatrists (on behalf of the Attorney General) and member of the National Task Force on Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing among others.

On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, President William Ruto nominated Dorcas Agik Oduor for the position of Attorney-General of the Republic of Kenya. If approved by the National Assembly, Mrs. Oduor will become Kenya’s first female Attorney-General.

According to a statement issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Ms Oduor has vast legal experience spanning over thirty years of practice within the public sector.

“In her long and distinguished career as a jurist who has contributed immensely to the development of law in Kenya through litigation, draughtsman, and legal advisories; Senior Counsel Oduor has demonstrated unimpeachable integrity, impressive professional competence and steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” the statement said.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Conflict Management and a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL. B) from the University of Nairobi alongside a postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She was admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1992.
