David Harper Biography
David Harper is a British antique expert, published writer, artist, speaker, and event auctioneer who is famous for appearing on Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt. He has been a regular face on BBC for many years, having fronted Bargain Hunt, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and Cash in the Attic.
Born in North England, David got the chance to spend much of his childhood in Zimbabwe. His father had moved to this country with the army and later became MD of a company there. Throughout his life, David has always been keen on antiques and started working full-time at the age of 18 years old.
In the mid-1990s, his family moved to Florida where his father’s sister was a realtor. Immediately after moving here, David opened an antique shop but later left Florida and was heading back to North England. During his early career, he shipped antiques to and from the United States. Later on, he became the director of a British PLC company importing antique-style rubberwood furniture from the Far East.
His first appearance as a media antique expert was at the age of 25 when he took part in a Radio Tees lives phone. These would lead to numerous appearances in the media notably Cash In the Attic, Bargain Hunt, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and antique Trip. Talking about Antiques Road Trip, he won the first series in April 2010, raising £2488 for Children in Need.
