Jaspratap “Jassi” Bindra, an accomplished Indian chef, is making waves as a contestant on Top Chef 2026. Originally hailing from Kanpur, India, Jassi currently holds the position of executive chef at Houston’s Kahani Social Group. His culinary prowess was previously showcased on Food Network’s “Chopped,” where he emerged victorious in 2023.
Jassi’s passion for cooking was ignited in India, where family meals prepared by his mother and grandmother, alongside the communal kitchens at Sikh temples, played a formative role. He honed his skills at the Culinary Institute in Kolkata, completing a rigorous three-year program before furthering his education at Napier University in Edinburgh, where he earned a degree in International Hospitality Management. His career in India saw him excel in prestigious five-star luxury hotels over a decade before he relocated to San Francisco as Head Chef at Rooh.
His journey then took him to Washington, D.C., where he became the Executive Chef of Punjab Grill, now known as Rania. Under his leadership, the restaurant earned a spot in the 2019 Michelin Guide and was heralded by Food & Wine as a Game-Changing Indian Restaurant in the U.S. That year, Jassi also received the title of World’s Best Indian Chef from Hindustan Times.
Eventually, Jassi found his home in Houston, where he launched Amrina as Executive Chef and Managing Partner. The restaurant has garnered significant acclaim, including multiple OpenTable Diners’ Choice awards from 2023 to 2025, and has been consistently featured in the Houston Chronicle’s Top 100 Restaurants in 2023, 2024, and 2025, along with being named Eater Houston’s Restaurant of the Year in 2022.
Through Kahani Social, Jassi continues to expand his modern Indian culinary vision. His ventures, including Kitchen Rumors, Pok Pok Po, bōl, and Jashn Catering, aim to elevate Indian cuisine on the global stage, showcasing its rich flavors and innovative potential.
