Mohammed Helmy was an Egyptian-German physician who saved the lives of several Jews from Nazi persecution in Berlin.

He was born on July 25, 1901, and sadly passed away on January 10, 1982. Helmy was born in Egypt but moved to Germany in 1922 to study medicine.

After graduation, Helmy went to work as head of the urology department at the Robert Koch Hospital. He apprenticed to a Jewish professor of medicine, Prof. Georg Klemperer.

Acknowledging Helmy’s assistance for the Jews, he is recognized as the Righteous Among the Nations, an honorific used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews.

Who Is Annie Ernst? Dr. Mod Helmy Wife

Annie Ernst was the esteemed wife of the life-saving physician Mohammed Helmy. She was born on March 19, 1916. 

Annie Ernst, also known as Emmy Helmy, was a nurse by profession. Her career tells us the tales of her kindness and human-serving nature.

She worked as a nurse in Berlin when she met Dr. Mohammed Helmy. Following the rise of the Nazi party in Germany, the two were forbidden from getting married as Mohammed was not an Aryan.

Annie frequently visited Egypt with Mohammed after they got married. Annie kept in close contact with Mohammed’s family even after his death.

The medical professional obtained an Egyptian passport through her marriage with Mohammed. 

Records show that Annie was close to Mohammed’s family. She even joked about being an Egyptian longer than the doctor’s young nephews.

In this way, living life to her fullest, Annie met her end in 1998 in Berlin, sixteen years after her husband’s death.

Dr. Mod Helmy Married Life

Dr. Mohammed Helmy met Annie Ernst in Berlin, where she was working as a medical nurse. Their life was full of struggles.

Mohammed and Annie fell in love and got engaged in 1939. However, they could not get approval for their marriage because of “race.”

Mohammed was a black man living in Germany when the Nazis were prosecuting Jews. He was discriminated against at work. He eventually got fired for being a non-Aryan.

For the same reasons, he was forbidden from getting wed to the love of his life. They were living together and working to save lives in Germany amidst the second world war.

After the war, the Nazi party was removed from power, their rules and laws with them. Mohammed and Annie could finally tie the knot in June 1945.

They spent the rest of their life together in Berlin and frequently visited Mohammed’s parents in Egypt.

The couple lived a happy life together. Not even an anti-semitic government could tear them apart.

Their relationship finally came to an end in 1982 when Mohammed died. Even then, Annie kept in touch with her family. She loved the love of her life until the end of her life in 1998.

Dr. Mod Helmy Kids

The record regarding the kids of Dr. Mod Helmy and his beautiful wife, Annie Ernst, does not exist. They seem to have no children.

Considering the state of their world, their choice to have no children seems logical and touching. Maybe they never had any time to rear any little ones.

All the Jews rescued by the doctor could be his kids. He gave them all a new life.

However, there is a chance the two had kids. If they did, they must be alive now and proud of their parents, especially his father, as the world remembers him.
