Megan McConnell is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She signed with the organization in June 2025 after going undrafted in the 2025 draft. She played in her first WNBA game on June 3, 2025, as the Phoenix Mercury faced the Minnesota Lynx.

Megan played for the Duquesne Dukes for five years. During her stay with the team, she averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.6 steals. Her best season was during her senior year, when McConnell put up 18.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, five assists and 4.1 steals.

Megan McConnell is the daughter of Tim and Shelly McConnell. Her father, Tim McConnell, is one of the most successful basketball coaches in WPIAL history. He has more than 600 coaching victories and eight WPIAL titles as the boys’ coach (1992-2018) and girls’ coach (2018-present) at Chartiers Valley High School.

Her mother, Shelly McConnell, who doesn’t play basketball, inspires Megan the most. “She doesn’t get any credit when it comes to basketball. It’s always my dad. But my mom has shaped me into the person I am today,” Megan said. “She has been there through every challenge in my life, and she is always giving me the best advice.”

Megan McConnell is the youngest child of Tim and Shelly McConnell. The McConnell family is considered basketball royalty in Western Pennsylvania. Brother, TJ, a Duquesne (2010-12) and Arizona (2013-15) basketball standout, is currently a member of the Indiana Pacers. He previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers. Brother, Matty, was an 1,000-point scorer at Robert Morris (2015-2019).

Her father, Tim McConnell, is a legendary preps coach in his 25th year at the helm of Chartiers Valley’s boys’ team. Her aunt, Suzie McConnell-Serio, is a former WNBA star and Olympian and now head coach of the University of Pittsburgh women’s basketball team. Another aunt, Kathy McConnell-Miller, is Pittsburgh’s associate head coach. Her uncle, Tom McConnell, is the head coach of Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s women’s basketball team.

Megan McConnell Injury

Megan suffered a right knee injury on her WNBA debut on June 3, 2025. According to the post from Desert Wave Media, Megan ran into Minnesota’s Alissa Pili’s thigh during a loose-ball situation. She left the court and went to the locker room.

“Not good for the Mercury. Megan McConnell went down grabbing her right knee. She ran into Minnesota’s Alissa Pili’s thigh while both were going for a loose ball,” the report from X read. “She is walking gingerly off the court and is headed toward the locker room. She made her WNBA debut tonight.”
