Dr. Joy Saini was a urogynecologist and reconstructive pelvic surgeon in Boston, MA. She founded boston pelvic health & wellness with the goal of providing the highest level of care for women with pelvic floor disorders.

Before founding boston pelvic health & wellness, she was an attending physician and associate fellowship program director at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Saini also served as an attending physician and assistant professor at New York University Medical Center in New York, NY and Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. At the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center, she was director of the fellowship didactics program and Grand Rounds. She has been actively involved in urogynecology research and has contributed a number of peer-reviewed publications to her field.

Dr. Saini received her Medical Degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology (ob/gyn) at The New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center and fellowship in FPMRS at New York University Medical Center.

Double board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG) in ob/gyn and FPMRS, she was one of the first women in the United States to receive fellowship training in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery and was among the first to be board certified when the discipline became an official medical subspecialty in 2013. She was also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (FACOG).

Boston surgeon and urogynecologist Dr. Joy Saini died in a small plane crash on Saturday, April 12, 2025 in Columbia County, New York. In total, six people died in the crash, 10 miles away from the Columbia County Airport where it was supposed to land. That included the doctor’s husband, Dr. Michael Groff. The pair’s daughter, Karenna Groff, along with her brother, Jared Groff, also died.

Karenna Groff was the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year and an MIT All-American soccer player. Her partner, MIT graduate James Santoro, was also among the victims. Jared Groff, a Swarthmore College graduate, worked as a paralegal. His partner, Alexia Couyutas Duarte, who was also a victim, planned to attend Harvard Law School in the fall.

The family was headed to the Catskills for a birthday celebration and the Passover holiday. Shortly before the crash, the pilot had radioed air traffic control at Columbia County Airport to say he had missed the initial approach and requested a new approach plan. The family had left from Westchester County Airport in White Plains. Dr. Groff, was an experienced pilot who family members say learned to fly when he was just 16 years old, News10NBC reported.
