Jason’s relationship with his biological father became strained after he completed college. In a 2015 interview with Philadelphia Magazine, the football player revealed that he and his father were estranged.

However, he expressed a strong bond with his stepfather, Ivory, who was a cowboy. J. Peters, his biological father, had promised him a car if he earned a college scholarship, a promise fulfilled upon graduation but postponed to the night of the ceremony.
