Richard E. Mrazik serves as a judge in Utah’s district court, having been appointed to the Third District Court by Governor Gary R. Herbert in April 2018. He officially assumed his judicial duties in June 2018, overseeing cases in Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties.
Judge Mrazik’s educational journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in sociology and biology from Bowdoin College, earned in 1999. Following his stint with AmeriCorps at the Fourth Street Clinic in Salt Lake City, he pursued a legal education at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, obtaining his law degree in 2005.
Before taking his current judicial role, Judge Mrazik was a shareholder in the litigation division of Parsons Behle & Latimer, a prominent law firm in Salt Lake City. There, he engaged in a wide-ranging civil practice, advocating for both plaintiffs and defendants in various cases involving personal injury, product liability, and real estate disputes. Additionally, he served as legal counsel for the Town of Alta.
Originally hailing from Connecticut, Judge Mrazik contributed to the Utah Bar Foundation’s board of directors from 2013 until 2019. Currently, he is an active member of the Utah Judicial Council’s Standing Committee on Resources for Self-Represented Parties and the Utah Avalanche Center’s board of directors.
