Kim Zolciak’s arrival on Next Gen NYC included a The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion with Riley Burruss that was 12 years in the making.

When Ariana Biermann and Hudson McLeroy visited their new Manhattan apartment for the first time in Season 1, Episode 6, Ariana mentioned they planned to have dinner in Little Italy with her “best friend in New York, Riley,” who is actually Kandi Burruss’ eldest child, before sharing surprising news.

During a rooftop brunch in Episode 5, Ariana casually mentioned encountering Kandi, to which Kim jokingly warned her not to invite Kandi to dinner.

Despite the initial banter, Kim showed a more cordial attitude during dinner, admiring how much Riley resembled her mother and complimenting the 22-year-old on her lovely smile as they greeted each other warmly.

Amid small talk about Riley’s life in New York City, the only other time the two mentioned Kandi is when the RHOA daughters detailed the NSFW “crazy show” they watched during their recent “almost $15,000” night out.

“What are you guys doing? I’m calling your mother,” Kim jokingly threatened Riley, who replied, “She’s already mad at me.”

Further questioning why they didn’t “just stay home and drink bottles of wine” instead, Kim also weighed in on Charlie Zakkour not paying his portion of the bill with some Maya Angelou-inspired motherly words of wisdom.

“What I’m gonna tell both of you guys is this: Believe people for who they are when they show you the first time,” Kim told Riley and Ariana, adding, “That’s our downfall, including myself.”

As Ariana explained in an Episode 6 confessional, “Riley’s mom and my mom used to be best friends.”

After reminiscing about their history of spending “so many years together,” including shared childhood family vacations, she added, “My mom and her mom don’t have a relationship at all anymore.”

Though Kim referenced the drama relating to “Tardy for the Party” royalties to Ariana and Hudson in the episode, the young women largely remained in the dark about the friendship rift, otherwise.

“I genuinely don’t know what our moms beefed about,” Riley admitted in a joint confessional with Ariana. “My mom told me that it’s not my business, so…”

As Ariana pointed out, however, “Both of our parents respect our friendship and are happy that we’re friends.”

In a recent interview with The Daily Dish, Ariana and Riley emphasized that there may still be hope for a reconciliation between Kim and Kandi, though.

“I know my mom wants to, you know, reconnect and we all want to do like a dinner or something together,” Riley revealed in the exclusive chat. 

As Ariana put it, “I feel like we could definitely bring them and reconnect them together.”
