Lindsey Halligan is an American attorney, former beauty pageant contestant and insurance lawyer and model. She is the interim U.S. attorney of the Eastern District of Virginia. Halligan, who has largely spent her career handling insurance matters in Florida, has filed appearances in only a handful of federal cases during her decade in the law.

Halligan grew up in Colorado, where her parents worked in healthcare. She played basketball and softball at Holy Family High School, a private Catholic high school in Broomfield, Colorado. She majored in political science and minored in broadcast journalism at Regis University, a Jesuit college in Denver, and went on to graduate from the University of Miami School of Law in 2013.

After graduating, Halligan was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2014 and began working at Cole, Scott & Kissane, a Fort Lauderdale–based insurance law firm. Halligan became a partner in 2018, primarily representing insurance companies in disputes with owners over residential and commercial property claims.

Halligan first met Trump in November 2021 at an event at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., she told The Washington Post in an interview. Trump added her to his legal team several months later amid the FBI’s investigation into his handling of classified documents. She was present during the FBI’s August 2022 search of Mar-a-Lago and became involved in Trump v. United States, a lawsuit requesting a special master to review seized materials.

Halligan remained part of Trump’s legal team, representing him in various matters including a dismissed defamation lawsuit against CNN and efforts related to the classified documents case. She also became a frequent defender of Trump on conservative media outlets including Fox News and Newsmax.

Following Trump’s 2024 election victory, Halligan joined the White House as senior associate staff secretary. In March 2025, Trump assigned her to lead an initiative to remove “improper ideology” from Smithsonian Institution museums, the National Zoo, and other facilities.

In September 2025, Halligan was sworn in as interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. The appointment came after President Donald Trump forced out her predecessor, Erik Siebert, for refusing to pursue charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey.

Halligan is expected to pursue charges against former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. She will now have the task of presenting evidence to a grand jury that Comey allegedly lied to Congress, and is expected to take over a mortgage fraud-related probe into a home that James bought in Norfolk in 2023.
