Gabby Logan, originally Gabrielle Louise Yorath, is a prominent British broadcaster, author, and podcaster. With her roots as an international gymnast, Gabby has become a significant presence at the BBC. Gabby is the daughter of former Welsh international soccer player Terry Yorath and his Leeds-born wife, Christine Kay. Terry won 59 caps for Wales and enjoyed a successful playing career with Leeds United, Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur, before managing Wales and a number of club sides.
Her father, Terry Yorath, died on 8 January 2026 after a short illness. On 7 January, Logan stepped away from presenting Match of the Day to be with her dad, and his death was announced the next day.
“We knew he had limited time, but it is still a shock,” Gabby wrote. “Yesterday afternoon I sat by his bed in St James Hospital, Leeds and we had a debate about whether roast potatoes were better with calves liver than mash potatoes. That was the meal he’d decided he wanted when he went home, tomorrow. I left and went to work, he was looking forward to watching Newcastle v his beloved Leeds. He won’t go home tomorrow. But he is reunited with Daniel and that will feel like home.”
She added: “I am sorry he had to deal with so much pain, the tragedy of the Bradford Fire was forever in his heart and losing Daniel defined the second half of his life.”

Welsh TV show host Gabby Logan is the daughter of Terry Yorath and Christine Kay, who were married in Leeds in 1971. Gabby has three siblings: Louise, Jordan and Daniel. Her brother, Daniel, collapsed and died in 1992, aged 15, from an undetected genetic heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
In a tribute posted to her Instagram, Logan said Daniel’s death had defined the second half of her father’s life, but added that she took comfort that the pair had been “reunited” and that being with him would “feel like home” for Yorath.
