Mary Ellen is the cousin of actor Kola Bokinni. Kola, 32, and Mary participated in Celebrity Race Across The World 2024 alongside broadcaster Jeff Brazier and his son, Freddy; broadcaster Kelly Brook and her husband, Jeremy and Radio 2 host Scott Mills and his husband, Sam Vaughan.

Mary wanted to take part in the series to “create memories with my cousin, I suppose, and go on the adventure of a lifetime.” She told The BBC: “Kola called me and was like, “Hey, Mary, do you want to be a part of the show with me?” I was like, “Oh my God, you thought of me?” I just want to create memories with my cousin, I suppose, and go on the adventure of a lifetime.”

The teams will be embarking on an epic 12,500 km race of a lifetime beginning in Belém, Northern Brazil – the gateway to the Amazon – and will pass through five checkpoints across the length of South America, to reach the finish line in the Andes, Frutillar in Southern Chile.

Mary’s dream destination to race through “would be Southeast Asia, like Indonesia, Cambodia all those places, or South America. Because if we’re in South America we can be salsa-ing the whole time. And then the third would be India. I don’t know it’s really tough, I’d love to go to South Africa too.”
