Her mother auditioned for American Idol while she was pregnant with Mattie. “She went to Kentucky for auditions but only made it to where the producers were and they told her that she was too pregnant,” Mattie said.

Mattie’s family roots run deep in Champaign, Illinois. In an interview with WICS Newschannel 20, Pruitt reflected on her strong family roots and the unwavering support she’s received:
“My grandparents are from there, my mom and all her siblings and cousins, they’re all from Champaign. I visit them once or twice every year for like holidays and stuff, and along this journey, they’ve been really supportive. I’ve had my uncle Michael and his wife Renée come out last weekend. And they are really supportive.”

16-year-old Mattie Pruitt is a contestant on season 23 of American Idol. The Middle Tennessee native drew strong reactions from the judges during her “American Idol” audition for her performance of “How Could You” by Jessie Murph. She was accompanied by country artist Craig Campbell, who played the piano during her audition.
Pruitt received “yes” votes from all three judges: music legends Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie. She earned herself a golden ticket to advance to Hollywood Week.
