Rapper Caresha Romeka Brownlee, better known as Yung Miami, surprised fans after revealing she would be starting classes at Harvard. The City Girls member shared the update via her Instagram Stories last week, posting a screenshot of a text conversation indicating her “classes with Harvard” would begin on Wednesday.
Though the recipient in the chat remains unidentified, they encouraged Yung Miami to begin preparing, stating she would receive more details via email. The rapper captioned the story:
“Life just got serious real quick. Hold onnn!!!!”
Public Reaction to Yung Miami’s Harvard Announcement
The news quickly stirred reactions across social media. Many users questioned the legitimacy of the announcement, especially based on the casual tone and grammatical issues in the shared message. One popular comment read:
“That text isn’t even grammatically correct and you think it came from Harvard?! Please lol.”

Some joked that “Harvard” might refer to a personal trainer or even a stylist, rather than the Ivy League university. Others speculated the message came from an assistant, not the institution itself.

Adding fuel to the skepticism, fans recalled a viral red carpet interview with The Shade Room at the BET Awards, where Yung Miami admitted she didn’t know how many continents existed—sparking concerns about her academic readiness.

Still, others defended her, pointing out that Harvard University offers open-access online courses. Supporters congratulated her for taking steps toward furthering her education, regardless of the format.
Previous Interest in Business and Finance
This isn’t the first time the rapper has shown an interest in academics. In August 2023, her close friend Saucy Santana posted on X that Yung Miami was studying finance and business topics. He joked:
“She keep asking me about cost of goods! Gross & net profit. Baby, I sell cat!!! Idk! Get somebody else to do it.”
Yung Miami reposted the tweet, thanking him for supporting her studies.
Mentioned in Diddy’s Legal Case
In addition to her Harvard revelation, Yung Miami has recently been drawn into headlines surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs’ ongoing trial involving s*x trafficking and racketeering charges.
A witness using the pseudonym “Jane” testified that while dating Diddy privately, she struggled emotionally when he began a public relationship with Yung Miami between 2022 and 2023. According to Hot 97, Jane said the imbalance in public affection was difficult to accept:
“What was hard for me was the imbalance in treatment. That was hard to watch. I didn’t sign up to date a man that was in a public relationship.”

She also testified that her involvement in certain explicit acts was to satisfy Diddy, only becoming emotionally conflicted when she saw him with Yung Miami during a trip to Turks and Caicos.

Responding to Public Criticism
Following the 2025 BET Awards on June 9, Yung Miami faced criticism online for her red carpet look. One user remarked that her appearance seemed “budget,” commenting:
“You can tell she missing that #Diddy money. Toes hanging off her shoes, wig giving beauty supply, dress giving 1999 prom.”
Yung Miami clapped back by encouraging critics to look at her Instagram to see her lifestyle. She wore a lavender Rabanne gown with metal details to the event.
