She spent her early childhood in foster care after being abused by her biological parents.

She later moved to Sierra Leone with her adoptive parents when she was 11 years old, where she witnessed extreme poverty and violence during the civil war.

She returned to England when she was 18 years old and started working various jobs, such as a nanny, a waitress, and a sales assistant.

Rachel Watkyn had always dreamed of running her own business since she was a child.

She started selling jewelry online in 2007 but soon realized that there was a gap in the market for recycled and eco-friendly packaging.

She launched Tiny Box Company from her bedroom in her parents’ home in the same year with £1500 of savings.

She applied for Dragon’s Den in 2009 and secured £80,000 of investment from Theo Paphitis and Peter Jones for 40% of her business.

Since then, she has grown Tiny Box Company to a multi-million-pound company with over 80 employees and over 700 products.

Rachel Watkyn has also faced many personal challenges along the way, such as surviving cancer twice, losing her adoptive father to suicide, coping with fire, flooding, and an IT hack that threatened her business, and dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite these difficulties, she has remained resilient and optimistic and has used her experiences to inspire others.

Rachel Watkyn is of mixed ethnicity and origin. Her biological parents were from Jamaica and India respectively, but she never knew them or their families.

She was adopted by an English couple who worked as missionaries in Sierra Leone. She considers them as her real parents and loves them dearly.

She also has two adoptive brothers who are from Sierra Leone. Rachel Watkyn is married to Paul Watkyn, who is also her business partner at Tiny Box Company.

They met at a church event in 2008 and got married in 2010. They have two children together: Joshua (born in 2011) and Grace (born in 2013). They live in East Sussex with their dog Lola.
